We take trips to visit KC frequently but hadn't heard of the Arabia Steamboat Museum until recently. We traveled with two children, ages 9 and 12 and met friends with another child age 6. This historically significant Museum houses a magnificent collection of 1860s housewares, livery supplies and many ordinary necessities from that time. It gives an excellent view of... More

Even though I thought I was going to see a boat put back together, this is a very interesting museum. The tour guide is very informative and the movie you watch also explains the process of resurrecting the "boat". Then when you see what they have done and have to show it is really cool.

This is probably one of the most unknown gems in the central USA! We were mesmerized by the scope of the collections of artifacts, the condition of the finds, and the shear amount on display! Everything looked nearly new (from 1856!), and the story of this discovery was worth the visit alone. The biggest surprise was the ability to "walk... More

This is a private museum with 100s of like new day to day articles from the frontier period. A remarkable "time machine" collection that lay under a cornfield for 150 years. I really enjoyed it. Near two stops on the trolley. Cost of admission ($15) includes a guided tour.

What an amazing story is behind the recovery of the treasures in this collection! Most museums contain a collection of artifacts gathered from sources all over and the items have deteriorated over time and do not resemble their original condition. Not so, here! The amazing circumstance of an entire load of cargo that was preserved en masse and is now... More

This was surprisingly interesting. The archeology process was as interesting as the artifacts on display. The artifacts really gave us a sense of how common people lived back in the day. Well worth the trip!

This is one of the most amazing museums I've encountered in my travels through six countries. The concept itself is amazing but the execution and interpretation is impeccable. You really just have to see it.

If you find yourself in downtown Kansas City and have 2 to 3 hours available, consider walking through this facility. It is very interesting to lean the history of the Arabia, how she was found and what was excavated and placed in this museum for your review and enjoyment. You will not be disappointed.

This was a great place to get to look back in time to understand the steamboat era on the rivers. We had a 6 year old boy with us and were concerned about keeping his interest. That was not a worry as he was very interested in almost every aspect of this magnificent exhibit, especially the tool portion and recovering... More
