About
Puddleduck Vineyard is a family run vineyard in Southern Tasmania. the family welcomes you to taste our beautiful cool climate wines that have been both grown and made onsite at our friendly cellar door, which is open from 10 - 5 daily. We only sell our wines here at Puddleduck so be sure to call in and enjoy a taste and perhaps a snack from our grazing menu,(cheese platters, dips, vineyard platter) or you can "Reverse BYO" (bring your own food to enjoy in our outdoor areas) while enjoying one of our beverages or a wine tasting. We have a wide range of duck items in our "Everything Ducky Duck Shop" where if it looks, walks or sounds like a duck it is most likely for sale! Families are welcome and children kept busy in our playground or feeding the multitude of ducks and guinea fowl while mum and dad enjoy a wine tasting or hot beverage. To ensure all of our guests (and rescued ducks) have a great experience dogs are not permitted at Puddleduck with the exception of service animals.

Aged Riesling from Puddle Duck a must
We went to Puddle Duck in 2007. Today Christmas Day 2023 we are drinking their 2004 Reisling. This delicious, notes of citrus, kerosene (as you would expect from an old Riesling) golden colour and just fabulous.
Wow thanks so much for letting us know about our aged Riesling. We also had an oldie for Christmas Day. Our son turned 18 during the week and we opened a bottle of the 2005 Riesling to celebrate. It sounds almost identical to your notes above maybe a little honey and toast too. We have often told people just how amazing these wines become as they age. 😊🦆👏

Perfect for relaxing afternoons for nature lovers who also love good food & wine.
Visited mid winter. Can’t guarantee the weather will be as good as we had but it was a clear, still, sunny (albeit cold) day. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating, the food is fresh and good quality but also unpretentious and reasonably priced. The ducks and other birds provided free entertainment. Even in winter the vines and pond provided a picturesque and peaceful environment that is perfect for relaxing. Loved it.
Thanks for your lovely review Jen. We appreciate you taking the time to put pen to paper and give us your feedback. We work very hard to create the experience you have just described so thanks for letting us know you enjoyed it. 🙏😊🦆

    Pinot Noir & Lovely Place
Pinot Noir is of excellent quality and the dégustation is of a very fair price (for French standards) at 15 AUD. That being said, the place is lovely if you come with friends and family. A small pound and many ducks keep the children happy while adults can enjoy their wine with indulgence. The 2 person attending are kind and smiling. They can ship abroad.
Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience of Puddleduck. We look forward to seeing you again on your next visit to Richmond. 😊🙏🦆

Booked in for a tasting here but it was so busy and crowded it wasn’t enjoyable. $15 for a paddle of wines and given a sheet to read off as staff are too busy to take you through the wines. I’m sure it’s great for families and large groups but not ideal if you want to keep the quieter tassie feel to your trip.

We visited here as part of a wine tour, which included lunch and a wine tasting. Small family run winery, it was very busy on the day we were there. Appears to be popular with the wine tour companies. Puddleduck have a very nice selection of wines (we went back later and bought several bottles) and the lunch provided was very good. They have a great gift shop, with a strong duck theme. We went back a week later and it was incredibly busy. They had a bus load of people from a cruise ship, so it was difficult to do a wine tasting. Nevertheless a very nice winery, and well worth visiting.

Had heard great things about this winery so decided to call in with 2 friends reroute to Hobart.
We waited for a while then were approached by staff member asking if we were there for a tasting or lunch. Stated there for lunch. This person then started serving visitors at the counter. We were left standing for more than 5 minutes. So we seated ourselves outside. Waited 10 - 15 minutes. My friend went back in to ask for menus. They were brought out some time later by the office lady who apologized.
I chose dips. Very average. My 2 friends chose a platter. Was poorly presented. Very little variety. Awful bread - no crackers or biscuits. $52 - an outrageous price and certainly not worth that.
Maybe just an off day but won't be returning in a hurry.

Hi Susi, thanks so much for all of your feedback. It certainly does sound if it was an off day - and it also sounds as if we were very understaffed for some reason (the fact the office lady had to serve you) Unfortunately because you did seat yourselves you would not have been given water or menus or explained that you needed to come inside to order at the bar. All in all I can see why you would have been so disappointed by our apparent lack of service. I can assure you that all of the items on our vineyard platter are locally harvested, baked and freshly prepared, again without having had the opportunity on the day to make things right, we can only offer our sincerest apologies and hope that you can give us another chance at some time in the future. Kindest Regards Jackie

Brilliant. Such a great story, and a great family business. Their wines are as good as you will find in Tasmania, we bought two of the four we tasted on the day. The tasting session was excellently lead, and was accompanied by a delicious board of locally produced foods, including the freshest, cleanest oyster I think I have ever tasted, also sourced from the waters locally. Don’t miss out on this rare place, make the effort, it’s definitely worth it.

We stopped in for a wine tasting on a very cold day. Paid the $15 p/p for a paddle and directed outside to an area where it was covered in parts and left. Sat for 10 mins waiting till eventually we got up and asked for our money back. There were other people sitting inside in the warmth.

Dear 940carroll, I understand that you have now spoken with management and realise that this is the tasting you chose to do - our self guided outdoor paddle. You did choose to do our outside paddle on the deck (which is covered and heated) on a cool Tassie day. You could have also easily chosen to sit inside in the warm like the others you mention. We are sorry you weren’t able to communicate this to us earlier in the visit on the day before leaving 😢🦆

A $5 tasting fee, we were seated outside, and Tom took us thru some of the wines, but it was a little cold outside so we moved inside. Its nice you can BYO your own picnic, I feel the place is more about the Duck Theme, than the quality of wine. They do have a very good selection of wine type cards, with great saying on them eg, WINE because no great story ever started with someone eating a salad.

Hi Still49, Lovely that you enjoyed our Everything ducky duck shop! Yes it is full of duck themed things which is great when not everyone in the group wants to participate in wine tasting. Wine is what we do - Puddleduckers is who we are 😊🦆

We were in Tassie recently and boy hasn't this little 'ole state come a long way!...Called in to Puddleduck on recommendation and certainly well worth it. ALL the staff couldn't have been more friendly. Great wines, great tasting experience and we certainly bought a few. Try the Fume Blanc, I haven't had a white as good as this in a very long time and the last one was a Tassie Riesling. Ver Jus with today water is very good too and something different. Puddleduck has a great little gift shop, not too expensive and a really good brunch menu, plentiful too. Location is really pleasant with a great outlook. Whats more it offers BYO Food, yep you can bring your own picnic, even use their BBQ's and sit under cover if you like by the dam while the kids feed the ducks. All they ask is that you leave your drinks in the car....great idea and we will be back for sure...

Absolutely incredible place, so lovely to visit! We went for sunset drink tasting and bought some souvenirs. Stunning venue - imagine it would be perfect for anything from lunch to weddings to any celebration or just a family day out (playground, ducks, fenced areas). Staff are incredibly professionally and friendly - especially Talia who went out of her way to ensure our experience was exceptional.
