Just 15 minutes away from San Agustin town, you csn find this amazing natural wonder: the Magdalena river strait. This river is one of the most important in Colombia and it crosses most of the country, in other cities it’s really wide but here you can see it just two meters wide. You can see and hear the power of the river and admire nature.

Located 14 km from San Agustin, the site a located just a short distance from the main road. The river is the major system within Colombia and whilst it becomes much wider as it travels through the country, here near the start of its journey, it is a narrow river. We viewed it as part of a day long tour of the outer sites around San Agustin. The main attraction is the 2.5m gap in the rocks that allows water to rush through. Pleasant views up the river and good for a 20 minute visit if in the area.

The river was a nice spot - very picturesque. We stayed in San Agustin and so the only way to reach it was via a jeep tour - which was atrocious. So it's a bit difficult to give it an objective rating if you rely on the rubbish tour to get you there...if at all possible, get there under your own steam.

This is a nice stretch of river with some lovely rocks that have been sculpted by the water over time.

The river goes from being a normal wide river to basically a shute, around a metre or two wide, for a small section of the river near a bend in the river.

We did it as part of a tour organised by Anacaona tours of several sites around San Agustin. It cost us 30,000 COP each for the full day tour (9.00am to 5.30pm).

The strait of the river was very interesting especially because of the afternoon sun. As we were the only visitors, we were able to take very nice photos.

I did not expect much before going to see the mighty River Magdalena where it almost starts its long journey to the sea. When I got to see I was extremely happy that I had made the effort as the combination of rocks, water and noise was enchanting. Don't worry about the crowds as there is plenty of room. Don't jump into the river as some people were doing (nobody got hurt) but the current is extremely strong and the rocks don't move!!

The Magdalena rivers extends for Chilometers covering a caste area of Colombia. Thus is one of the many spots to appreciate it in all of its power

Beautiful gorge on large river with narrow stretch of rapids. With surrounding mountains was really quite pretty to experience. Easy to walk down to but wear good walking shoes.
