We’re members of the National Carousel Association and seek out vintage carousels to ride. This is a beautiful late Dentzel carousel. The horses and deer are exquisitely made. Some paint was chipping off here and there but overall was in good condition. I would recommend a ride on the carousel itself to anyone, including adults.
We did experience some major problems here. First, instead of staggering the animal rows that were blocked off for Covid, all the 2nd and 4th row animals were blocked off. This included all the deer and most of the horses that jump that are big enough for adults to ride. The entire first row, like most Dentzels, is made up of standers. It left us adults who wanted to ride a jumper with a very limited choice. We couldn’t even ride one of the four deer. Secondly, after we bought 3 rides each we were told we were not allowed to change horses for any of these rides. We just had to sit on one the whole time. The staff said they didn’t want to clean every horse every time we rode it. If there had been others there, we would have understood, but we were the only people there. This made the workers look lazy, and we missed being able to ride several animals and taking pictures of each other on them. It’s something we also should have been told beforehand. Thirdly, the things the person on the intercom system said were very childish. “Say giddyup to your horse! Say whoa!” It would have helped if the person had said it with conviction and excitement, but they seemed embarrassed to say it. Why hadn’t they learned different intros to give to different groups of people? It isn’t just small children who ride carousels – many adults are interested in riding them for a variety of reasons. We wanted to ask them questions about the carousel, but they didn’t seem to want to talk with us – in fact, seemed annoyed that we were there. We also wanted to buy a magnet. According to their records they had quite a few, but they couldn’t find them anyplace. This carousel has a rich history and to many kinds of people is an exciting ride and work of art. Why aren’t people who are excited and knowledgeable about it hired instead? It would draw more people to come here.
There is apparently a gallery in another room attached to the building that houses parts of an 1898 Armitage-Herschell track carousel with the original steam engine. We would have loved to see this exhibit, but we weren’t told about it and we saw no signs for it. We only learned about it later.

The website clearly stated they were open until 4:30. We walked down the steps at 4:18. My granddaughters were so excited. A very rude, dark haired older lady stuck her head out of the door and yelled to us that they were closed. I said, “No, the website says 4:30.” She said, “I needed to read more website more carefully. The last ride is at 4:15. See, it’s already going.” She then shut the door and walked away. Nothing I saw said the last ride was at 4:15. This woman was awful! We have to go back tomorrow and try again because my older granddaughter cried most of the way home.

Horrible..If I could give them 0 stars I would. It's spring break, so I decided to take my 8 year old, twin 3.5 year old, and almost 2 year old to ride the Carousel before we head over to the Butterfly House. We purchased our tickets and the children pick their horses, all in the same row and we wait. The man running the Carousel asks them their ages and I said 3.5 and almost 2. He then proceeds to tell me they are too young to ride as I must be standing next to each one. I explained we've ridden twice before and there was never an issue-in fact my children were younger then. He then became belligerent and told me I had to get them off. I told them this was unacceptable and his attitude was horrible. He then told me I could speak to the Manager and she didn't even get off her phone (she had a conversation going with her wireless headpiece) as she was issuing me my refund. Completely unprofessional! I stated a sign needs to say 1 parent PER 1 Child as the current sign does NOT state this. They should have asked me their ages when we bought the tickets-and not let them get on and me to have to PEEL them off the horse. This was completely unprofessional and bad business. I will never go back and will be writing a letter to their Foundation.

5 generations of my family have ridden this carousel This is an amazing one since it was the only ride that survive the Highland fire (an amusement park located on Oakland East of Hampton) in 1963. It has all hand carved horses that have been restored to their original glory. The last time I saw it at the Highlands the horses were ugly having been painted by anyone handy over the years and were extremely garish to say the least. It was stored for years before the building was built to keep it safe from the elements and all the horses and benches were restored. For me it brings back found memories but it really is a work of art created in the early 1900. It is a piece of St. Louis history that has been her for almost a century. Now it resides in West St Louis County in the City of Chesterfield. Web site will tell the days it is open and the prices.

I have been to 2 birthday parties held here and I think it's a great venue. The party room is huge and the guests get as many rides on the carousel as they want. The kids love it!
You do have to be sure everything is out right when your time is up, to prevent being charged more. However, with the playground right outside and picnic tables, you could easily extend the party.

This is a really nice indoor merry-go-round. Only cost $2 to ride. Moves pretty slow so not much chance that a person could get dizzy or motion sickness. Was not busy when we went but they were close to closing, we were the last ones to ride. A wonderful attraction for the park.

I remember riding this historic carousel as a child, so I was excited to bring my daughter here for the first time. The hand carved horses are quite stunning and it is clear that attention was given to detail during the restoration of the carousel. The calliope playing loud music makes the experience all that more remarkable.
Unfortunately, both women working had such abrasive attitudes from the moment we walked in. They were rude to not only us but others coming in as well but we were determined to not let it affect our enjoyment.
At only $2 per ride, it's an inexpensive and unique stop for people of all ages. And being inside Faust Park you can easily combine it with visiting the Faust Park Historic Village, Sachs Butterfly House, or the Thornhill Home. There's also a nice playground and picnicking inside the park.

We had our granddaughters first birthday party at the Carousel in October. There is a private room in the building. It was definitely fun for all of the kids there because they were allowed to ride the carousel as much as they wanted.
The only downside is that it's pretty pricey to rent the room, it was $250 for 2 hours and they only give you 15 minutes to set up and are adamant about you being out exactly at the two hour mark. I felt like I had to start cleaning up and almost kicking the guests out.
Regardless, the kids had fun and it's a fun place to visit.

My husband and I recenlty rode this after we visited the Butterfly House. Not many adults were on the ride, but I didn't care. It had been so long since I was on a carousel, I wanted to ride this one.

We are lucky to to live close to Faust Park. When my kids were young we made regular visits to the carousel....at least monthly. The carousel is from the old Highlands park and is beautifully restored. Easy access in beautiful park with lots to see. Butterfly house and playground on grounds. See restored old houses.
