Old St Vincent's Church was part of a tour of Cape Girardeau offered by American Queen Steamboat Company. An older native stone church was built on the site overlooking the Mississippi River in 1838 by a Vincentian priest to replace a temporary church in a warehouse . That church was destroyed in 1850 by a tornado, and a new church in English Gothic Revival style was promptly begun incorporating stone from the destroyed church. Old St. Vincent's is one of only several churches
remaining in the U.S. of English Gothic architectural style.
A spire was added to the church in 1900 but it was struck by lightning and destroyed by fire in 1905. The present steeple dates from 1912.
Restoration of the church was begun in 1977 and went on for 20 years. In 1982 the church was placed on the National Register of Historic Places because of it's historic significance to the area.

This prominent church in Cape Girardeau was contracted around 1850 - an attractive exterior hides an even more attractive interior.
Light and airy, with interesting relatively modern decoration.
Well worth a visit if you are nearby.

Old St Vincent's is a beautiful old Tudor Gothic church on the riverfront. The first Catholic Church in the city, it is now a chapel of ease and Mass is celebrated on Sunday at 10 am. Father Joseph Kelly, the celebrant of the Mass I attended, is a newly ordained priest who celebrated a reverent, prayerful, beautiful Mass. Highly recommend.

We visited the St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau and loved the architecture. The Church was built in 1853 and is a beautiful Red Brick building. The inside of the church is so beautiful with the tall ceiling. We had a good time reading about the history and saying some prayers for our families while we were there.

A beautiful old church, located on the riverfront, has been carefully and lovingly restored. Come for Mass and enjoy the friendly parishioners and the beautiful Tudor Gothic architecture. A real gem in Cape Girardeau.

Old St. Vincent's Church is a stately landmark within easy walking distance of the Mississippi River and Old Downtown Cape historic district. Many beautiful older buildings are located on Main Street as well.

As the name implies, it's an old Catholic church near the old down town district of Cape Girardeau. It's also a short walk from the Mississippi River.
It's beautiful both on the inside and out. Worth the time to stop and see.

The current building was constructed in 1851, at the site of its two preceding churches. A tall spire was added in 1900, was destroyed by fire and replaced by the current steeple in 1912. A few additions took place during the 20th century and the last restoration was completed in 1987. A guided tour of the church (by appointment) is helpful in appreciating the various architectural characteristics of the church. This is a very active church, with important community outreach programs. The beauty of the church makes it a frequent venue for weddings.

Our nephew recently got married in this beautiful historic Catholic Church. The English Gothic architectural style church overlooks the Mississippi River. The church was built in 1853 (actually rebuilt after a tornado destroyed the first church). Also has beautiful cut glass windows.

Hello from South Carolina: I was recently on a Riverboat Cruise and The Red House was one of our stops. I am Catholic and would love to have visited the church. I have some photos that I took of the sweet dear lady who volunteers at the Red House and I sent them to her only to have them returned as "undeliverable." No mail receptacle. If I were to send this envelope to your church would someone there kindly walk it across the street to this lovely lady? It would be greatly appreciated. Judith Bachand. 843-798-3086
