Home of the founder of Capr Girardeau. Lean about frontier life and life among the Indians of the area. The home has been moved from its original location (across the street). Excellent docents from the area with whom you have almost a one on one...More

I have passed by this jewel of Cape's history numerous times over the past 20 years, and finally checked it out. Between the collection of artifacts and the easy-going and highly informational introduction by a costumed docent, I was extremely surprised and pleased. I learned...More

The docents at the RHIC are very well versed in how Don Louis Lorimier (founder of Cape Girardeau) would have lived and traded in 1800. On many weekends there are special interpreters explaining components of living on the American Frontier.

Very well informed docent shows you around the place. Easy, free parking right at the doorstep. Lots of historical items presented very nicely. Plan on spending at least an hour there.

We happened onto the Red House and it was a great experience. THe woman that walked us around the facility explained the deep history of the area from it's founding, Lewis and Clark connections and the Trail of Tears crossing. Well worth a stop!

I do recommend that you place and advance reservation to request a docent to show you around the site- you are missing half of the history behind the museum if you are not guided by them. All docents are friendly and knowledgable, a few of...More

The Red House Interpretive Center was closed on the day I visited. I think they have it open during peak tourist season for special events and on weekends. The Old St. Vincent's Church is just across the street. Be sure to add that to your...More
