for what this is, it really is excellent. it is a bike/hike trail that traverses Cape Girardeau from North to South. from the north, it starts at a wooded area with its own hiking only trail. it then heads south along a small stream. it progresses through neighborhoods, parks, driving range, fairgrounds, businesses, tennis courts, outdoor fitness equipment, crosses over small wooden bridges, even past a bike store, and ends at a big rec center area full of soccer and baseball fields. it is all paved and wide enough for 2 way traffic of hikers and bikers. the hikers are very friendly that i have encountered. i am from out of state and bike alot and find the Cape bicyclists a bit rude and ignorant of bike etiquette. so if you are biking, be aware. overall a great trail to ride when you are in town and needing to get some miles in..

Wife and I were in Cape for the weekend and I needed to get some miles in. found this trail and decided to give it a go. Started at the soccer fields and headed north since it has a slight incline that direction and since there was a brisk north wind that morning. that way I get to go downhill with the wind to my back on the return half. Trail is well kept and has decent markings.

If you enjoy biking and walking this is a great several mile paved trail. It travels through wooded areas and business districts. You can stop along the way for ice cream and some miniature golf and driving range. It end at huge softball and soccer fields on the south side of Cape Girardeau and begins on the north side. Open from dawn to dusk.

A bit hard to find the start in the park if you are from out of town. Would be helpful if they marked the trail head in the park. It is at the back of the park and there is a pavilion next to it. Girl at desk in the main building was not sure where the start was--but she was nice. The trail is paved and good for walking, biking, etc. Once out of the park it is not a scenic walk as the trail goes through town, mostly along a canal and behind strip malls. But, unlike many city walking trails you do not have to cross any major streets --for at least the first 2 1/2 miles that I went.

The Cape LaCroix Recreation Trail is mostly for hiking and biking, but is also a nice place to walk your dog. (Please be mindful and ALWAYS pick up after your pet). Lots of folks use this trail, and they want to enjoy it just as much as you and your dog always do.
