A good place to pop into and see some fantastic trains and rolling stock. Although far from as big, or full of things to see as The National Railway Museum at York, this place is still worth a visit. Just a shame that there are...More

this was our second visit to Locomotion at Shildon, we are stream train buffs. On this occasion Fling Scotsman was on display and if you waited in line you were able to go up into the engineers cab

Went with young family. Trains are great to look at if interested in it however for young children there is not much for them to do with the trains. There are toys for children to play with with a great outdoor playground. Parking & entrance...More

A great display of locomotives make this a very worthwhile visit. All housed in one giant indoor venue. Small café - the cake and hot drink deal is very good. Large carpark which along with the museum is free so what's not to like!!!!

Our youngest is 13 years and oldest is 92 years. A lovely place run on donations and lots of history to see. We came across the tank which is the same as our eldest member had driven many years ago. Lots of restoration work going...More

We were staying locally and found this gem by chance. Visited with teenagers and disabled father. The staff were very accommodating with a wheelchair to lend out. The venue is great with lots to see. A great shop and good cafe. Easy to park.

An eclectic mix of exhibits with helpful and informative staff. Free entry (£3 donation recommended) and free parking which is a rarity these days. On the day that we visited there were just the standing exhibits on show. There is an indoor small activity area...More

If you are a railway fan, you will love the National Railway Museum's "Locomotion" display at Shildon. Firstly, it's free, including the parking, which is unusual in this day and age. Secondly, it's all under one roof, which is good in inclement weather. Thirdly, there...More

Free parking, free entry, impressive engine collection and great walking connections with historic local buildings. Made even better by the fact we saw the Flying Scotsman in action.

Sorry for late reply. I am not on here all that much. I was there for work, with a group of autistic young people, we didn't use the cafe. However I bought something in the gift shop and they took a payment card, so I... More
