This fellowship of Christians was organized as a local church on January 11, 1835, in the home of Alexander Shaw, one of the early Scot-Irish settlers in North Mississippi. Originally the church was named Neriah Church, but shortly thereafter it was re-designated Ebenezer Church. In 1836 members migrated to this area, and on Jan 11, 1841, the church was renamed... One of the places that I always take visitors to Oxford, particularly those who are interested in its history, as well as those who have an interest in William Faulkner. As one walks through the beautiful "cedar bemused cemetery," to use Faulkner's expression, it's quickly clear to the observer that the names of Faulkner's characters were not solely from his... Pretty old building inside. Went to church here with my grandmother in college and well, the pews are hard as rocks, but the feel of sitting back in history was so great. Cemetery behind it great history stop and geocaching too.

Well, we walked the church grounds including the cemetery amongst the constant drone of the 17 year cicada hatch. A bit off the beaten path, but historic.

College Hill Presbyterian lies about 5 miles north of Oxford, and was the religious home of William Faulkner. The antebellum brick chapel, displaying it's original stained glass and bead board walls that predate you or I, was my family's church for generations. I attended weddings and funerals there as a child, and proposed to my wife within those walls as... More

Even though the attached picture is of First Presbyterian Church(where we belong) College Hill Presbyterian is a delightful step back in time and a must see for our out of town company. We took a Dallas friend to see it last fall when she visited us and the setting is truly charming! The cemetery and 100 year old trees on... More

Tom H. is right. This is not a picture of the College Hill Presbyterian Church in College Hill, just outside Oxford, MS. It is, indeed, a beautiful, old (antebellum) structure-- well worth the visit. My family and I have visited this lovely old church numerous times. We have always been welcomed and have almost always seen at least 2 or... More

I was a member of College Hill Presbyterian church while attending the University of Mississippi in the 1980's. Quaint little church in the middle of nowhere. All of my relatives are buried in the cemetary that sits next to the church. I would highly recommend going by to take a look. A true step back in time where things in... More

This is First Presbyterian Church, in Oxford, and this is about it's worst angle. College Hill Presbyterian Church is a much older antebellum structure out in the country, in the community of College Hill. It also has a great historic cemetery. Don't miss the country store across the road.
