Jackson Zoo is a struggling little place that is clearly suffering from too little attention and proper support. Sidewalks, enclosures, displays, and amenities are all deteriorated to the point of embarrassment. Even the Petting Zoo building and area has been shut down for years due...More

Visiting from Florida for the thanksgiving holiday. Stopped at the Zoo for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Great layout, clean, and the animals were very exciting and species we had not seen before. Just really nice and highly recommend!!

I like to see the animals. But I do NOT like to see things like lions pacing back and forth from boredom. If you are going to force animals to live in captivity, their habitats should be more natural. The entry fee is too high....More

Thank you, Donna, for taking the time to voice your thoughts. We've actually been following the "pacing" conversation for sometime between other zoos and experts in the field. Because exotics are unable to truly communicate, we have to rely on studies and keeper experiences. There...More

I kept thinking this maybe the Mogadishu Zoo instead of the Jackson Zoo. The area around the facility is deplorable. Dilapidated homes, streets full of potholes and vagrants roaming all around. The facility looks as if it were once nice but the upkeep is poor....More

Hello, jpc, thank you very much for your visit and taking the time to voice your concerns. Naturally, our board and the city are very aware of both the area's problems and the perception that can sometimes be a little harsher than the reality (crime...More

VERY VERY disappointing. Half the exhibits were closed. The grounds were unkempt. The benches were covered with so much mold we wouldn't sir on them. Having some sort of water issue and both cafes were closed. Very disappointed!More

Wanda, we are so sorry to hear that your visit was not all that you expected it to be. Our park is nearly 100 years old, and is actually larger some of the other zoos in larger cities when it comes to land. Unfortunately, our...More

The animals are super friendly. If you go during the week, it's quiet and peaceful. The enclosures are more "lifelike" and less like a cage. Even the bears and tigers got up front and personal with us. Our little girls enjoyed their trip to the...More

It is an expensive venture that the city obviously cannot afford. May be should scale down or close until the state sees better times finacially. As it stands now it is a disgrace!More

Peace, we are so sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your visit. We are very aware of our challenges, often compounded by our age and size, and having to be compared to larger and better-funded attractions in our sister cities. Luckily we are...More
