We decided to take our 95 year old mother to Canterbury Park, have dinner and a few drinks, do some betting and hopefully break even on the betting. We reserved a table in the restaurant area so that Mom could enjoy the races from the comfort of a chair and stay cool. We had a beautiful view. of the track and racing, the big screen TV, etc.
Lots of photo finishes in the races. We were also able to place a bet on the horses in the Belmont on Saturday without going back to the track.
Dinner was very good. We decided to pass on the prime rib buffet, none of us can eat that much. Mom had the chicken entree which was very generous and good. My wife had the Rueben which was also large and filled with good stuff. I decided to try the watermelon salad. Oops! When it arrived I thought there was some mistake and asked to see the menu because it was so little food. I wish I had taken a picture of it!
There were 8 one inch cubes of watermelon, a little bit of micro greens (so micro I couldn't tell what they were), a few walnuts, some fancy cheese (at least I hope so), and a lot of dribbled sauce. I suppose the sauce made it worth $10??? I'm glad Mom gave me her cole slaw, and I ate some of my wife's Rueben or I would have been very hungry. The table next to us also had someone order the watermelon salad and we could hear them express surprise (not pleased) about it too.
Next time we'll avoid the restaurant!

It's always exciting to see horse races and bid a little money. My kids get a kick out of it. It's an activity that's reasonable to take the family to.

On independence day my sister and I decided to go check out the buffet at Canterbury Park for lunch. This was our first time there and what a mistake this turned out to be. The "brunch"selection was strange, random and mismatched. It appeared as if the Executive Chef had the staff put out whatever leftovers happen to be in the fridge. There was barbecue ribs with waffles etc. Huh? The food was mediocre at best and drinks were not included with the meal. What?!? Why does Canterbury Park charge over $21.00 per person and drinks not be included? Drinks are $2.50 per each glass with no refills. That is unacceptable. There was a Sous Chef named Jessilyn that asked me how I was enjoying my visit. When I complained /asked why drinks weren't included with the meal she shrugged and smugly told me that's just the way it is. Almost like she was implying get over it and get lost. She didn't care at all about my visit. So why ask? Patrick another Chef walked up. He seemed even more smug, detached and dismissive than Jessilyn. At this point I returned to my table feeling rebuffed and totally dismissed only to notice that I had forgotten to grab silverware by the buffet table. When I went back the two Chefs were snickering and talking about me. No customer should ever have to suffer this sort of indignity. What blatant unprofessionalism! My sister and I complained and asked the Manager on duty for a full refund and left. Without customers frequenting Canterbury Park the staff wouldn't have jobs. How dare they treat me that way? Maybe the staff would be better served concentrating more on the quality and selection of their menus and making sure the plates on the buffet are clean and less on being catty, belittling and dismissive.

I paid 75 bucks for advance tickets to brew, burger, bacon fest. This was very unorganized. We arrived prior to racing, but were told we had to pay regular admission until 230. When the event started. Admission and racing program is included in price, but nobody knew that. We were supposed to get in half hour early with VIP tickets. Not so much. There was supposed to be private betting machines, not so much.
Free samples of burgers and bacon, we got 1 hamburger.
I never saw 1 piece of bacon. Not 1, and I like bacon. The racing was fine as usual, but paying 75 bucks for this event was borderline robbery. The free beer was basically a shot glass full, no more. And like I said, no bacon. I feel a refund is in order. A 40 dollar entry got the same as I did. The concert was for everyone. The VIP seating was a wood bench. I love racing, and I love brew burgers and bacon, but this was ridiculous.

We took my four-year-old Grandson and had a terrific time watching the horse racing! It was on a Thursday when it is $1.00 to get in and $1.00 food item deals. The atmosphere was exciting and kid-friendly. We enjoyed getting close to the track for the action. We read over the program and were able to understand how to place bets. Great fun!

My wife and I have been here a few times now. We play poker here. Sometimes winning, sometimes not, but always with money we can afford to lose.
We have always found the staff to be helpful and friendly.
It's a lively atmosphere for the most part. Friday and Saturday tends to bring the part time players that are out for a good time. Which makes the place buzz.
Sunday brings in the slightly more seasoned players that think a little more so there tends to be better games.
We will be regulars for many years to come.

A little tip.
When you go.
Go with money that you consider has already gone.
Go on a day they have Chicken Wild Rice soup.
It is very good and will keep you going :D
(Try the quesadillas :) )

We come here on the Thursday dollars day. It works well for my family. We love watching the horses out front before walking to the track. We also like the fact that we can make a 2 dollar bet. Keep up the good work. It's a clean fun day out.

It was a trip and we saw an ad for Canterbury. It was the weekend after the 4th and we decided to take the kids because it was family day. I had not been to a horse race in years and it would be the kids' first time. We had a good time watching the horses, trying to pick out which one would win and eating hotdogs. It turned out to be a good day the whole family enjoyed. Our kids are a little older so they stayed to the end. But I did find out one thing if you want to sit inside you pay for it. And the higher up you go the nicer. We bought a box seat after viewing the different levels. I would not say that the first level was very clean, at least not on the day we went. The box seats are not expensive and well worth the price. I just wish someone had told us in advance. I would suggest to Canterbury tell the customers when they are buying tickets and allow them to sell the boxes at the time they buy tickets. But overall I would recommend the Canterbury Park.

In February the brother in law and I attended the All Canada Sport Show as exhibiters in Canterbury Park facility. The facility is modern with nice facilities. Attached to the building is a casino and race track.
