Chester park is awesome to hike in, you can cross country ski in the winter. Feels like you're somewhere far away but you're right in town. There are lots of places to enter the park. Many people bring their dogs in. You can take a leisurely stroll or turn it into a rigorous workout. It's extra beautiful during fall colors!

Great park for dog walking and hiking -- can be strenuous if you walk all the way to the top of the old ski jump hill! Scenic path along the creek, then Lake Superior views from the very top of the park.

Chester Park is one of Duluth's beautiful hiking parks with quick access to the lovely river that has water fall and a few swimming holes. IN a fairly recent seminar, I learned that the water is so clean in the Chester Creek you can almost drink it!- But don't - there are a lot of animals in the park and the water is not safe for that reason. There are foot bridges, some of Duluth's most beautiful white pine trees, thimble berries, cliffs and rocks. The park when hiking north, ends at the Chester Bowl challet and picnic grounds with a nice playground for children and restrooms, picnic tables, more hiking and walking areas, lots of space, a soccer field, and grills for summer cooking. We love this area and it is well cared for by the "friends of Chester Creek" informal group.

Our family of four loves to hike and take in the sites while on vacation and no matter how much time we have we can usually find something. Chester Park looked like it would be a really quick little stop and then on to the next park. We were really impressed with the trail running up and down both sides of the creek and the multiple falls along the way. There's a great grassy area for having a little picnic along the creek. You won't have complete solitude as many trail runners are out but at times you really feel like you're away from the city. It's worth a stop! FYI - The Superior Hiking Trail also routes through here.

Easy hiking path along both sides of Chester Creek, right in the city (trailhead across the street from Burrito Union), street parking usually available. Best scenery when water levels are high, can get muddy.

I just came back from a short hike up and down the creek and it amazes me that it's only a mile from where I live. In some other cities it would be a significant tourist attraction but we take places like this for granted in Duluth. It makes for a wonderful hike with waterfalls and ponds to sit by and enjoy.

Many tourists flock to Canal Park and the Lakewalk but completely miss what the locals love - the city parks! Chester Park is built into a valley which allows you to escape the residential area and immerse yourself with nature. Each side of the walking path follows a river that has a some nice waterfall views, especially in spring. The paths are all dirt that can be slippery after a rain and they are only open to walking or running. To access the park you can enter at multiple points but it is easiest to park at the top near Chester Bowl. This is a great park for any nature lover or a tourist that wants a feel for true Duluth.

This park have wonderful falls to play in and just look at. Especially after a rain. The falls are really gushing after a rain. Bring a picnic and spend some time.

Chester Creek has the feel of a north shore stream... but you don't have to leave the city to experience the beauty. A lovely walk.

A beautiful, quiet place to walk and even hike a bit. Great for runners who get bored with the road. The water runs all year around, and it very restful to sit beside. As well, a simply fabulous place for pictures!

I am planning a family trip and thought this might be a great place to go. However I have 2 younger kids (9 & 6) and my husband & I aren't the outdoors type by any means! But I want to take in the beauty. How difficult is the hiking in this park? My son had major surgery on his leg and has a hard time with difficult terrain. And let's be honest, I'm not in tip top shape either ;-) So we want to see all the beauty this park has to offer but want a fairly easy hike. Is there another park in the area that's equally breathtaking but maybe more our speed? Thanks for your help!

is this open this weekend? do we buy tickets? how much? can we bring our dog with threw the walk? what is the address?

This answer will be much too late but hopefully it will help another curious reader! The park is open every day and is free! Leashed dogs are welcome at the park. The easiest way to get to the park is by searching Chester Bowl in a gps. This will bring you to the top of the park where you can find a large parking lot and you can hop onto a trail easily. The hiking trail is a loop so you can do the whole thing or turn around on one of the bridges. Another note, Chester Bowl is a beginner's style ski hill in the winter with one chair lift.
