I find the drive up Thompson Hill to be quite easy....relaxing, if you will. I can't say the same for all drivers. Driving Thompson hill can be challenging!  Imagine the embarrassment of watching those around you easily drive to the top, when sometimes you just can’t do it.  You may come close, but find yourself trickling back down to the bottom.  You may not be able to hold the line, and wind up driving into the trees.  Blame the wind.  Blame your... This is one of the nicest rest areas I've been to. There are picnic tables all around so you can have a picnic enjoying Lake Superior.

I have been here many times and if it is your first visit to Duluth you should stop here. The view is amazing and the place is very clean with tons of parking. There is a very lame sculpture here- you can skip that part but the rest is worth a stop. They also have very friendly staff on hand... More

Love this out of the way rest area with lots of room for our pet as well. It is also located at the same exit as several hotels, restaurants and gas which is really convenient!

The most scenic rest area we have ever visited. Clean and well kept inside and out. Nice picnic areas. Several overlooks over Duluth, Lake Superior and the St. Louis River. Friendly and helpful staff at the information area. I sure wish they were all this nice.

This is a wonderful information center with a fabulous view. The people could not have been nicer about asking what we wanted to see and places to go and how to get there. Lots of good maps and information.
