This is a part of history that was forgotten until local residents decided to bring the story out of these men who were unjustly accused of raping a woman, then dragged into the street from the jail and hung kitty corner from this memorial. The panels have quotes on them, and the largest panel explains the story of what happened. Each year, the city has a gathering to remember these gentlemen. I think this is a story that everyone needs to hear. Plan on spending about 15 minutes exploring this small plaza.

I found the memorial by accident, you won't find signs leading you there, but it was one of the more fortunate accidents of my trip. The monument is very well done, plan on sitting down and reflecting on what has happened in our country. And remember, while this lynching was 100 years ago, the last recorded lynching of an African American was in 1981.

Extremely well done memorial to 3 African Americans who were murdered via lynching in Duluth, in 1920 (100 years before this review is being written). The memorial tells the story of the lynching (false accusation, 3 men jailed, mob stormed jail, took men and lynched them)
Overall theme: "An event has happened upon which it is difficult to speak and impossible to remain silent."
The memorial also has a number of brief quotes from people like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elie Weisel, Marian Wright Edelman, Albert Enstein and others. For example:
"The world is a dangerous place not because of those who do evil but because of those who look on and do thing." (Einstein)
