A friend invited me to do a winter hike on Park Point. It was a clear, sunny, albeit windy, day. The trail starts behind the hangars for the adjacent small airport. Much of the trail, which was quite well worn in for winter, is through wooded areas until you get near the end towards the channel. At the end of the trail, you can walk out to the break water (we didn't, too windy) or just overlook the channel and see Wisconsin across the way. Our trip in and out (not a loop but back again on the same trail) was a total of 4.19 miles. Doing this hike will take you past the Zero Point Lighthouse Ruins, the site of the first lighthouse in Minnesota. I would definitely go back in more moderate weather and try this one along the beach!

We only made it to the beach area..we had fun walking in the sand and looking at rocks! Lots of black flies..they would not leave our granddaughter alone and kept biting her even with bug spray. We ended up retreating to the car and going downtown for ice cream!

This land is too delicate to have all these people trampling all over it. Bad enough that they allow people to live on this sand spit and build and develop it into oblivion but to encourage people to trample the dunes - poison ivy and all - is heartbreaking.

Been to Duluth many times but just discovered this gem the last time we were there.
We had always driven to "the end" of the point but it wasn't until I checked my phone's satellite maps that I realized that the end of the road is nowhere near the end of the point! If you want to get to the end of the point, you have to take this beautiful path, which is approximately 2 miles long. It's a very flat and easy hike - the only 'hazards' are some sand and a bit of poison ivy (I had shorts on and had no issues).
We were there the weekend of "Tall Ships" where the crowds were nearly unbearable, but we saw maybe 4 other people in the entire 2 hour time we did this trail. Park near the airport and start walking - once you're past the airport, you enter an old-growth forest, continue on many sandy paths, past a very interesting, 150-year-old lighthouse ruin, and finally to the end of the point where the views of the lake are spectacular. On the way back we walked the shore beach for about half the distance, and you really feel like you're walking the ocean - it's simply beautiful.
We brought our 6 and 8 year old boys and with some encouragement they had no problems hiking out to the end of the point and back.

I love walking this trail! Usually go twice a year.
There's sand, trees and interesting objects along the way. Also
several different paths and you can pop out onto the beach any time!
Worth going all the way to the Superior end.
Views of lake Superior or the harbor side.

Park near the airport at the very end of Park Point. Walk towards the the airport gate - and there you will find an entry to a trail so tranquil. At the end of the trail - you will find the natural shipping canal and find Wisconsin just a stones throw away (aka: Wisconsin Point). Take your camera to capture some very beautiful scenery along the trail; beware of a very prolific crop of poison ivy!!

It's a horrible shame that an airport sits at the end of the road. Otherwise it's a tiny sandbar with so many nice beaches and places to walk. If Duluth had a nude beach, I'm sure it would be somewhere on this very expansive sandbar. Some parts are very remote and quiet - so much that you could probably get away with camping on the beach.

Drove down from our hotel to Park Point to put my feet in the cold water of Lake Superior ! It’s a nice little place with area to picnic , play volleyball, and has access to the lake. We did not drive all the way to the little airport , but were told today that if you continue to it there is a great nature trail to the end of the point! We didn’t know about that when we went ! If you like nature you will enjoy this place ! The beach had lots of driftwood and rocks ! So glad we went!

You cant go wrong on the shores of Lake Superior and Park Point this seemingly endless sand beach is wonderful. Old growth forest in a unique environment. It is how ever a bit stressful watching for poison ivy that is everywhere. If you do this hike know what poison ivy looks like and step carefully. I have never in my life seen such large and vast outcroppings of poison ivy.

This seven mile sand bar is one of the longest in the world. Climb the dunes and dip your toes in Lake Superior. We were there in mid-July, and the water was COLD!! Beautiful view, and lighthouse ruins a short walk away.
