Beautiful, well-paved road from Corinth, beautiful landscapes including the “Blue” lake of Vouliagmenis. Ruins in a bay by the sea accessible in a 15th of a minute on foot from the car park. Signs with explanations.
Some restaurants/taverns nearby (including at Lac Bleu)

We were looking forward to this visit to Heraion after spending time at the beautiful lake of Voulgamenti near Loutraki. It is certainly worth the trip, you follow the signs up from the lake & there is a small car park (only accessible by car).
We walked a short distance up to the lighthouse & the views were amazing with turquoise sea all around.
You then go back down to the ruins of Heraion. There is also a small church which was open.
Below is a small tranquil cove/beach and it is just beautiful & peaceful.
Unfortunately when we got back to our car 2 of the windows had been smashed & our beach bags stolen.
There was hardly anyone there, we saw only 2/3 couples but in the half hour we were away from the car this happened.
They even took the picnic lunch from the boot.
There were only towels/plastic shoes/sun cream etc in the bags so nothing valuable, but damage to the car & a perfect day was spoilt.
Warning not to leave anything on show if you leave a car parked there.
We reported it to the police but they were less that helpful, we had to get a report to claim on the insurance.
Definitely worth a visit though just beware.

Mentioned by Strabo and Pausanias, the Heraion at Perachora gave up it's secrets in 1929, when excavated by Humfry Payne, director of the British School of Archaeology in Athens. After 4 seasons at the site he had uncovered one of the richest hoards of artifacts in the Peloponnese. Tragically, he died in 1934, but his wife, Dilys Powell writes eloquently about the dig in her book An Affair of the Heart. If you read the book you cannot fail to be drawn to see for yourself. The EU have spent thousands of euros on access to the sanctuary and it is a joy to behold. Early May or October are the finest months to visit and leave plenty of time to peruse the remnants of the Temples of Hera, set in this stunning location.

The temple of Hera /Akraia is a must visit if you are visiting the Corinthian province!
A breathtaking scenic drive amongst the green through Gerania mountain, bypassing the Blue or Heraion lake and straight to the lighthouse of Malevi and temple.
Discover the cistern or sacred pool, the ancient restaurant area,St.Johns tiny church, the sacrificial alter, the west court and of course Hera's temple (or whats left of it)!
Now for the magic.....Swimming swimming swimming!Dive in or jump from the cliffs into crystal clear waters....Unbelievable!
Don't forget to bring a snack for you and plenty of water as there is no place to purchase anything except at the Blue lake a couple of km away!

If you travel all around the world as I do for business and leisure, this place can remind Tulum in Mexico: an archeological sacred place close to the sea. This sanctuary of the goddess Hera is situated in a small cove of the Corinthian gulf and it is a lovely escape if you are bathing in Loutraki or you not far from the location (just the drive from Loutraki or Corinth is nothing the visit, especially on a sunny day).
With Corinth not so far away, this place is somehow underrated but I strongly recommend a visit if you are in the area: you will not be disappointed !
PS Have a walk also to the close lighthouse where you can have a fantastic view, especially at the sunset.

Maybe not worth the tour as a single goal; but well worth the detour, if you are on a day trip. We went to the place after seeing the Corinth Canal.

What would make a swimming session memorable? Clean water? Check! A picturesque gulf protected by the winds? Check! With ancient ruins a small church and a light house just above it? Check, check, check! Heraion is a wonderful location to enjoy a swim, but it comes with some caveats. It's only accessible by car, you have to walk downhill and then uphill a lot and the beach is not accessible really for people with disabilities. Plus, the beach is quite small and can get relatively crowded during summer. That shouldn't put you off from visiting it at least once though!
