Stop at the park and climb 2 sets of stairs to watch the ships lock through. There is a schedule that tells you times some of the larger ships are scheduled. Small pleasure craft and tour boats also use the locks. No cost.

Nice information center displaying some history and facts of the great lakes, functioning of the locks, etc. There's an outside observation platform that gets you up close to the actual locks and the ships as they pass through. Figure a couple of hours to see...More

Amazing to see how the locks work. The visitor center has the history of the building of the locks. Big freighter came in right after we got there. Also a nice park to walk around in with a fountain.

So my husband and I love seeing the locks and the marvel of their engineering. However, the teenagers are not in complete awe. They enjoyed it and it's been a good 8 years or so since we last visited. The park is free and has...More

The Soo Locks are among the greatest engineering feats in history. We stayed at The Lockview Motel directly across the street on August 4. We didn't see any ships pass through that day due to gale warnings that had forced Great Lakes maritime traffic to...More

Not necessarily. Channel traffic varies widely from nothing for hours to one every 30-40 minutes. Download "FindShip" for graphical update that shows time, location, and direction of ships in area.
