I liked everything about Saugatuck and the surrounding area, including Douglas. If I had a boat, for sure I'd spend time on the Kalamazoo River and Lake Michigan. Plenty of docks with lots of good restaurants, hotels & B&B's.

Rode the Star of Saugatuck down the Kalamazoo and into Lake Michigan - a relaxing ride with a glass of wine bought on board.

Driving through Saugatuck and Douglas today most times you can look either to the right or left and you see the Kalamazoo river if not on both sides at least one side depending which street your on! Beautiful views! Boats, wildlife and water! Love it.

Going out to the Lake, this is the most relaxing place to get there. Very scenic and a relaxing day to spend an afternoon.

Clean, quiet river with plenty to do nearby. Shops, eateries and music. Very pleasant walkway on the boardwalk near the boats. Again, very clean. No fishy odor.

We have so grown to love the Kalamazoo River channel over the years that we just bought a house along it -- one of the (more modest) houses we have admired as we have drifted by on a boat or while taking the Star of Saugatuck. Yes Lake Michigan is wonderful, but don't forget to stare at the river now... More

This is a lovely river with many beautiful homes (wish I owned one of them) and sailboats and powerboats to admire. Favorite thing in the world: dining outdoors. The only thing that makes it better is dining outdoor on the water and we were able to do that on this river every night of our trip.

We took the Chain Ferry across the river. It may take 5 minutes to cross, but takes the operator a long time to start the voyage.
