My kids loved this splash pad. It is pretty big, close to the beach, and got them soaked! Their favorite part was when the fountains would go down, and the cannons would begin to shoot water into the center. All the kids (and even the adults) run into the center to get ready for that.

I got to hang out on a bench and watch the soaked chaos. As others have stated, there is no shade to be found, which is the only drawback. So if you are there on a sunny day, put on the sunscreen and bring plenty of water!

We've been to a lot of splash pads, and this is one of the best ones. The canons are impressive and the kids had a great time. Friday night there was an outdoor movie in the adjacent park which was pretty awesome.

On a recent trip to St. Joe, my wife and I ate a picnic on the bluff and watched the children playing in the water at the Whirlpool Compass Fountain. The more loudly the children laughed and played, the more kids arrived to join the fun. We remarked to each other that the adults will remember relaxing on the sands at Silver Beach, but among the children's most happy memories will be splashing in the water at the Whirlpool Fountain. My guess is, the kids would rate it a 10 on a 10-point scale--and will lobby their parents to return to St. Joe on future vacations.

This is probably a nice splash pad for people to enjoy during summertime, but I visited after Labor Day when the place was empty. There’s not much to see or do here in the off-season, to be honest. Props to the city for keeping the park around it well-landscaped even after the summer season is over, but this fountain – and the whole Silver Beach area at the foot of the bluff, to be honest – could benefit from some creative ideas on how to use the space in the off-season.

This was so cool to just stand and watch, kids running around were having a ball. Great for smaller kids then you don't have to worry about dangers of deep water.

A nice place to let the kids have some water fun and get the sand off them before heading home for the day.

Whenever we have company--grandchildren, nieces and nephews, etc. we head for the Whirlpool Compass Fountain. It is fun for all ages and I think it is wonderful to see adults enjoying themselves. It is quite peaceful and I have never seen anyone getting rowdy. The Fountain is a wonderful part of summer in St. Joe.

We were in town with the kids and wanted to do something fun other than the beach, so we stopped in to get a Merry Go Round ride across the way and then went to the "Ultimate Splash Pad". The best part is it's free. There are enough benches and hills to put your beach towel down and I saw alot of people having Silver Beach Pizza to go. I would bring a towel, some band aids if they fall down, and a couple drinks. The kids loved running through the fountains and it's fun to head into the middle when the cannons go off. It's roughly 17 min. or so. The biggest issue would be parking so you might have to park around town and walk down, but it wouldn't be more than a 10 min. walk with stairs or ramp down to the Fountain. I wouldn't say there is shade down there so definitely bring sunscreen. Great stop to get the kids cooled off after lunch.

Especially for kids, but adults can enjoy the splash fountains too. I have, and I'm in my 70's. It's easy to use if you're going to the beach, or riding the Silver Beach Carousel, visiting the Kurious Kid's museum, or eating at the pizza restaurant (but dry off before going in for pizza). Of course, you can do it all or any combination!

What a wonderful water attraction for the beach area for families. Close to Silver beach, the Kids Museum and Silver beach pizza ... makes for a fun day.
