Like all State Parks in Michigan, North Higgins Lake state Park is a gem. There is an ongoing effort at many of the parks to clean up and recondition them.

This park was one of the best state parks in Michigan I've been to. It is very shallow in the swimming area. There also is a nice dog beach.

North Higgins Lake is one of the better state parks that I've been to. The campsites have enough trees and privacy to make it seem like you are camping, and it was not a "party" campground. The beach is rather small, and the water is...More

Nice bike trails but park is not as modern as we care for. Beach access but no camping sites along water. Must walk to beach from parking lot.

Clearest, cleanest water I've ever seen since traveling to Hawaii. Fantastic for families with small children. Large, clean beach, showers, bathrooms, vending, occasional food trucks (depending on season). Would definitely go back!

Higgins Lake is amazing! Gorgeous clear water, great swimming areas. The North state park has a great boat launch, picnic area, sandy beach and even a park store. There are lots of campsites, modern shower/toilet facilities, and there are a couple of mini cabins for...More

This was the most beautiful lake I've ever been in. The water was very clear, and the beach was well maintained. Swimmer's itch was not a problem for us.

Honestly, I am not sure. We did not have a pet and I do not recall seeing any dogs there. I checked the DNR website and it appears that North Higgins Lake State Park does not have pet-friendly areas, but South Higgins Lake... More
