We visited on Memorial Day weekend with our new RV and we got lots of help backing it in for the first time. I noticed the sites in the middle back right up to the playground which is great for active kids! We were a...More

I live in the area, and this is the park most families visit. It is just a short jaunt from Exit 206 on U.S. 127. It has all the amenities, plus it s much more peaceful than South Higgins Lake State Park.

The trails begin on the north side of the road across from the main entrance to North Higgins Lake State Park. It is the same entrance for the Fish Hatchery. The trail inclines for some distance and descends rapidly at the end but is only...More

We tent camped here for two nights mid October and loved it. The camp sites are very spacious, great electrical service, outstanding fire pits. Because it was off season it was not crowded at all, but I'm not sure that would matter! The bathrooms are...More

This is truly an undiscovered gem, and although I don't understand why, I'm happy that it's so. Everyone flocks to South Higgins Lake State Park, only to be shoe-horned into tiny campsites with no privacy, when a few miles away there's a state park on...More

Have not been here in a couple of years but this is still one of the nicest state parks in Michigan. Very nice beach area. Plenty of campsites. A beautiful overlook of Mackinaw bridge. We stopped in the day after Labor day and it was...More

We did our inaugural camping trip here and it was great! We used only tents and loved it. Very nice bathroom set-up, spacious lots, and clean. The boat ramp was good, beach excellent, and Higgins Lake? In my top 5 happy spots. We will definitely...More

They wouldn't let us in at Higgins Lake State Park because they require only a recreational pass. You can't buy a day pass. I don't get it. Every State Park is happy to take your money. We ended up going to a small park down...More

This lake is unique in that much of it is shallow and all of it crystal clear, so you can boat to your own spot and have your own personal swimming pool. There's so much to not do. And that's a good thing. Saw some...More

One of the only deep launches on the lake. Weekends are busy between 11am-5pm. There are lots of parking places, too. When the lakeside lot fills, there is much more parking across the street. You need to keep your dog on a leash until you...More

Honestly, I am not sure. We did not have a pet and I do not recall seeing any dogs there. I checked the DNR website and it appears that North Higgins Lake State Park does not have pet-friendly areas, but South Higgins Lake... More
