When I need to get away and desire nature's autumn grandeur I like to head to the porkies. There are two styles of camping from which to choose. Rustic or developed. Union bay is great if you like to be close to the water and don't mind the loss of privacy. After everybody's kiddos are in school for the season... More

We just snowshoed 5 miles on trails in the Porcupine Mountains. Midweek and no one was there....except for 2 park rangers who showed us a yurt. Lots of snow cover even though they've had above average temperatures recently. It hovered around 32 degrees with a light snow falling. Ideal! Wonderful winter activity! The rangers were informative and very friendly. So... More

Very beautiful place. One of those places you have to see at least once. The locals were very friendly too.

I don't think I can expound too much on all the other rave reviews of this park. My wife and I brought the pup and went up her for a relaxing day to experience the Porcupine River and lake superior and had a great time hiking on the trails along the river and enjoying a Bells Ale on the rocks... Excellent place to snowmobile to in the winter. Great views. And a great experience riding in along the lake. A must see.

There are waterfalls and lakes and the great lake and creeks. Hiking in the park encounters hills and flats and woods and rustic boardwalks. The mosquitos and black flies are definitely present, but if you come prepared and expecting them, they are worth the views and experience. Swimming in the great lake is cold but refreshing. It feels like an... More

Loved every minute of the Porcupines and it was to be our farewell to Lake Superior after following the shoreline from Sault Ste. Marie ! The Wilderness in November was pretty quiet so we basically had the place to ourselves but conversely most things were closed/empty ! But the scenery & drive made up for it and I prefer it... More

Friends and I backpacked here in October for 5 days. It was a great and rugged experience. We had to do a few river crossings through water and over fallen trees, saw some wildlife and enjoyed spending nights cooking meals and talked. The views at mirror lake, lake in the clouds and summit peak are breath taking. Rustic camping was... More

The view is breathtaking. We went the first week in September and it was beautiful. Don't forget your camera.

Our family have been visiting Michigan every summer and this was our first time to visit this side of Michigan. We were really looking forward to some great falls and awesome areas but were disappointed. Definitely not a place to plan for your summer vacation.
