Quiet park situated high above Lake Michigan with nice views of the lake and beach below. Parked in the north lot ($5) and was several steps on a boardwalk up to the views, but wonderful to have a birds eye view of the lake and beach area.
South parking lot leads down to the beach.
Don’t know how many steps down buts it’s a hike.
Beach is dog friendly and saw about 6 dogs down there. Mid week visit and there was plenty of room at the beach.

I brought my dog here so she could spend the day off leash playing in the water. If you don't want to share the beach with dogs, don't come here! People seemed to do their best to keep their dogs on the "dog side" of the beach, but frankly, dogs can't read signs. Respectfully, almost every beach on the Lake Michigan coast is for humans only, no dogs allowed PERIOD. So for the people who come here and get angry that the dogs act like dogs and your day was ruined because of sandy dogs or barking or dogs being off leash, go to any of the hundreds of other beaches that are dog free. Give us this one great beach where we can enjoy a day with our furry family members :) I can't wait to come back here with mine.

This park is a hidden gem near Lake Michigan. There is a nice playground for the kids and nice bathroom and picnic facilities. You can climb up to the top of the dune on nice walkways and have a wonderful view of the lake. Well worth a visit.

We knew there was an AREA designated for dogs at this park, we wrongly assumed there were non dog areas. When we first arrived, there was one lady walking 3 dogs on the beach on leash. While I noticed they weren't in the designated dog area, I didn't mind because they were on leash. So we set up chairs and spread out our towels and blankets and cooler. Within 20 minutes another group arrived with 2 large dogs off leash, set up chairs on the southern tip of park ( no where near dog area). At one point their dog knocked down my daughter running past her. Shortly afterward on its return trip it tried to leap into my lap as I sat in my beach chair. Dog was wet and sandy, dirtying my clothes and the kids' beach towels and our beach blanket. We decided we should pack up and move to another area. While doing so, 2 more groups showed up, all with dogs, all off leash. One included an agitated looking blue nose pit brisling up and growling at the obnoxious lab that had been harassing us. There were now 7 large dogs all off leash running everywhere. Running over all our stuff, knocking into us, and one attempt at urinating on our cooler. At that point we packed up and left completely with disappointed children in tow, all our clothes and towels covered in sand, mud and dog hair. By the time we got all our stuff back to the car I was livid. As for the park itself, the wooden stairs and ramps were very worn, with broken areas. Uneven from sand and plant overgrowth, very dangerous for elderly or handicapped. There were also 2 piles of dog feces on the ramps, and we saw at least 5 plastic bags with tied handles - I'm assuming filled with dog crap, left by owners responsible enough to pick up after their dog but too lazy to walk over to the trash cans at the top of the hill. Overall, it was a nasty mess. Parks & rec should remove the dog area and make the whole thing dog free since people have ruined it. And no, I don't hate dogs. I own dogs that I love. The stairs and ramps around the dunes and down to the beach all need to be rebuilt

The dog beach is terrific. Best spot around for an active dog to have some fun in the fresh water. Parking is plentiful. Just don't let the kids wander back into the woods away from the beach, as they may encounter some surprising activities.

Instead of entering the park at official entrance, select the last parking spot on beach street. The walk is flat and only 50 yards to the dog section from Pere Marquette beach.
Beach is fantastic. Large area for dogs and owners. Shallow when first in the water. Dogs run unleashed. Everyone is friendly and considerate with their dogs and yours.
Only issue is biting flies. If there is no breeze, I would stay away.

Like farther down in the shore, this beach was very clean - even though it is a dog-friendly beach. My puppy had the time of his life. It was great being able to take him to a place where we all had fun. Will definitely be heading back there!

This is the place you (and others) bring their dogs to the beach!! Loved watching the dogs playing and chasing in the water. Some very impressive Canine swimmers and God looking pups show up here!! Get your dog on!!

Day use park with excellent beach access, picnic areas, and dune stairs. No fees. Main beach area is off limits to dogs. However, the dog beach starts here and runs about 3/4 mile to Pere Marquette Park. This off leash dog area is wonderful with towering sand dunes and crystal clean water. On hot days your dog can jump in the water to cool off and take a drink. On most weekdays there are only a few users, so you can easily find a private beach area. On hot summer weekends it is busy, but everyone takes care of their dog's droppings. I have been to many dog beaches and park across the States, and this is by far the best. Just remember, dogs do not understand beach blankets, and you are better off taking a folding chair. Also if you bring a picnic on a busy day, you may attract some company.

My friend and I bring our dogs here every few weeks and really love the area. When you first come into the park you'll walk down a winding trail or steps to the beach area with signs pointing to where you can have your dogs. It is a bit different from other dog beaches in that there are no fences.
We usually let our dogs spend as much time in the water as they would like and then walk the trails while they dry off. The trails are mostly well shaded but a lot of stairs in most areas!
The dog park does struggle with keeping clean, we haven't had any problems but other people mention complaints on a frequent basis so if you are bringing your dog make sure to bring bags to clean up after them and more for others if you can spare them!

I would like to know how many steps are on the stairs in Kruse Park in Muskegon, MI?
Written 4 July 2016
There are A LOT. I didn't count them, and there are too many to guess. If you're worried about being able to make it up and down the stairs, just know they also have handicap accessible ramps in addition to the stairs.
