Watch the detour signs when traveling along the south shore to Lake Michigan. You have to go into a private drive to see the sign just up the hill from the Coles food plant. We got a tad turned around before getting the nerve to check the private drive. There is also a section
where you drive in traffic, maybe .75 to one mile. Otherwise we had fun and loved the beach views.

The trail runs along the lake and is really nice. It went basically from my hotel all around the water way leading to the lake. I liked that I could ride to the beach park. It is off the road mostly so that is really nice. I couldn't find a bike rental place, but I am sure there is one somewhere. Luckily I had brought mine planning on riding the trail.

This was probably one of the better bike trails that I've ridden on around the country. The pavement was quite smooth with no cracks. There were quite a few long boardwalks. Path was at least six feet wide.

We stayed at a hotel adjacent to the bike trail, and did some walking on the trail. It goes for miles, and would have been wonderful to explore more distance on a bike. Next time, we'll do that. From downtown Muskegon going north, it parallels a railroad track, passing through a commercial/industrial district along the lake and then to the marshy area where the Muskegon River branches enter the lake. Beautiful boardwalk bridges there, leading into the Muskegon Lake nature preserve before heading west into North Muskegon and beyond.

Lakeshore bike Trail is great for the whole family with plenty of stops. If you start at Lake Michigan going to Lakeside it has two great places to eat The Deck and Dockers which have music on weekends. In Lakeside you have ice cream and sub stops Hab's with a couple bars Lakeshore Tavern and Marine Tap. As you travel to downtown Muskegon along Muskegon lake there is a pizza stop Fricano's and the Lakehouse bar just to name a few, there's Brewery's and Mike's Inn. The trail will take you through wetlands and over bridges never a dull moment all the way to North Muskegon. Fun event is called the Pub Pedal which is held in the spring. ;0)

We have started biking with our kids, ages 7 & 2. We biked down to Grand Trunk landing at the corner of Lakeshore dr & McCraken! We were absolutely amazed at the beautiful sights from the beginning! There is so much to see along the trail. We stopped to swing on the benches. We rode down to Heritage landing before heading back. We stopped at Fricano's to eat one of their yummy pizzas outside on the picnic table. Then a sweet treat of ice cream from Pinchtown market. Then heading back we saw a mama deer and her 3 little babies! Such an amazing sight! Lots of other families biking, couples walking, & people walking their dogs. Lots of gardens. Natural beauty! My daughter must of thanked me 20x for bringing her. If your visiting, bring your bikes! The trail goes all the way to North Muskegon. Plenty of fabulous places to stop along the way. Max & Marleys Restaurant would've been our normal stop but they were closed. Best Hot dogs around. Lakeside Emporium brings you back to your childhood with fun candies and treats! The sunset was amazing. I can't believe I have lived here so long without checking it out.

My husband and I are casual bikers and usually ride this trail 4 or 5 times during the year. We enjoy the views and the flat path. The Muskegon downtown and Lakeside area are great places to stop for a drink or something to eat. There are also 3 small pocket gardens in the downtown area that are close to the bike path.

The Big Lake, the bay, parks, and city life are all a part of this trail that connects areas in the Muskegon area. From restaurants on the beach, walks on the pier, to floating museums about history, this is the trail to take on your bike to connect it all.

We checked out the Muskegon beach area on our way up the coast. We parked at Pere Marquette Park & rode bikes for 8 miles on the trail. First few miles are on streets through old neighborhoods & dilapidated factories from Lake Michigan to Lake Muskegon. We should have parked close to Lake Muskegon because once you got there you were on the actual bike path with wonderful scenery.

My husband and I rented bikes at the Muskegon Visitors Center and hopped on the bike trail right across the street from the center. It was drizzling when we started but I am glad we persevered because it was a very fun morning! I hadn't been on a bike in about 20 years so the gloomy weather gave me a bit of time to acclimate not in the view of others, but even once the sun came out we mostly had the path to ourselves. The path has some lovely areas and views. From where we started we went probably 2 1/2 to 3 miles lakeside until we had to go up to Lakeshore Dr.-because of my inexperience we turned around and headed back the way we came and went an additional 2 or 3 miles to the nature preserve. Lots of fun! My only complaint was that the Visitors Center didn't really have a very good, clear map of the bike trail. And as travelers we could have used one.

I’m a runner, not a biker. Should I use this trail or look for another route?
Written 21 March 2019
Lots of people walk/run this trail. Just keep to your right and listen for those passing on your left (most make an announcement). However, the trail just before Lakeside is under water for quite a stretch. You will have to run through water that is about 6” - 8” deep.

there are different types of bikes that people with disabilities can ride. there are trikes with hand or foot pedals. this trail doesn't provide any bikes if that's what you're looking for.

we are staying at Duck Creek Campground. What is the best way to get there and is there a map we can get?
Written 22 August 2016
Whitehall Rd runs through. we took 131 to 120, but you're closer to whitehall. We used Google maps. you can turn on the bike layer and it will show you the path. Due to Michigan construction your best bet would probably be to check right before you leave.

How many miles is it around Muskegon Lake?
Written 8 July 2016
You start at pier Marquette and then you ride past Muskegon lake! You go past downtown which you could stop there
You pass the lakeside emporium which is our local candy shop! And max and Marleys a really good local restaurant
You can stop and go in gazebo if you want or swing and look at the lake! It's beautiful!!

Are there adult trikes available for rent?
Written 27 May 2016
I am not sure I fully understand your question. The path is paved; that paving does not go away in the winter and get replaced in spring.
I think your question may be 'does the path get plowed (or snow removal) in the winter.' If so, I am not sure as I have only been there using the path in summer & fall. You may want to check with the Muskegon Chamber.

You can rent bikes at the Convention and Visitors Bureau downtown. A good place to start.in the historic area. There are other locations as well, the visitors bureau can point them out.
