There's something odd about Leon city - a lack of signage. Streets generally are unnamed as are museums and some stores. We realized that we could visit the top of the cathedral for some great city views only after seeing people on top. We asked around about how to get up there and we were told to go to the... More

Nothing in the sanctuary makes this special, but it is a great place to shelter from crowds and rain. Do check the roof top times.

The views from the top are incredible and worth the steep climb. Be sure to have socks on and get there in the morning. I wish there were a brochure or guide to describe the architecture, art and significance of the Cathedral.

The Catedral is nice and is a must to visit the rooftop, we saw the Telica Volcano from the roof and also great views of the sorroundings, you need sunscreen, hat and water for this visit. It is great to visit with family or friends, the acces is to the side of the main church looking for the market area.... More

Fronting beautiful central park, this beautiful church is very impressive. They say that it's the biggest church in Central America and I believe it. The inside is richly painted and there are statues everywhere. The national poet of Nicaragua is buried there. There is a huge marble lion on top of his grave not far from the main alter. the... Beautiful decoration inside and don't miss the lion - whose top half of the face looks just like a person. Make sure you take the (steep) stairs to the top. The roof had recently been repainted when I was there (May 2016) and you need to take your shoes off to go outside. Take a hat and sunglasses to protect... More

Great views of the city once you pay $3 USD to climb the stairs to the top. The roof is painted in all white and makes for some stunning photos. The times for climbing to the roof are limited, so plan ahead.

Nice cathedral, it gets renovated at the moment the front is nice and blanco, but one side is still quite dirty which kind of adds to the Nica charm. It's also worth going up to the roof, bring sunglasses it's very bright. The entrance is 3$ which is a little steep for Nicaragua, however it's still worth the visit.

I think the highlight of this place is walking on the roof and seeing the surrounding area. My tip is to make sure you are wearing socks since you don't want to be walking around the roof with just your feet on a hot day.
