Went volcano boarding with two friends and had an amazing time. This is such a unique experience and would strongly recommend everyone doing it that is looking for an adrenaline rush while visiting Leon. Our two guides, Mecha and Rolando, were especially great and we were very fortunate to have them with us. They were both very enthusiastic and knowledgeable,... More

I was working here as a volunteer tour guide, and although I have gone up and down many times, I still consider it one of my favorite hikes to do. Its about an hour hike up and a bit difficult as you have to carry your kind-of sledding board up the mountain with you. The terrain isn't very stable which... More

Cerro Negro is a small, active volcano that is possible to hike up to the top, and sandboard down. Or as I did, as I am afraid of hights, walk down. It was not a problem walking it, it is not that steep. Aroung 50 minutes up at a slow pace. My friends who did the sandboarding had great fun.... More

This was an absolutely amazing vulcano hike!! The views are so beautiful - just amazing. We enjoyed the hike up immensely. But it is impossible to keep up with the people who go up to board down...!! We were not able to find a tour with a hike without boarding though - but we could easy have used more time... More

By far the coolest thing I have done. I made a video of my experience in Nicaragua on you tube under " quick trips and tips". If you decide to go, book through the big foot hostel. It costs 35 bucks and includes the board and gear you need, a beer after you finish, a mojito when you return to... More

I booked with quetzal Trekkers $30 and the money goes to street kids. We had two volunteers who were really knowledgeable and friendly. It's 45 minute ride to the volcano the first 20 minutes was tough especially as you carry your sand board and 2 litre water bottle the next 20 minutes is not so bad. It was ashame it... More

No matter what company you go with (quetzal or bigfoot), the hike is difficult, but the breeze and the trip down are totally worth it!

The main event here is volcano boarding but you get really beautiful 360 degree views of the whole surrounding area. I did Volcano boarding with Quetzal trekkers and they did a fine job. It's a lot of fun but you can go really fast so be careful. I fell and scratched myself up but it didn't stop me on run... More

Cerro Negro is a great attraction in Leon. The welcome center for the national park charges 140 cordovas (5$) for admission and they also rent boards ( sit down and stand up ) for 5 and 10 $ respectively. They offer beer, soda, cookies and chips as well as home made Nica food at a small concession stand. They have... More
