Don't even just go for the volcano boarding, the views are stunning!! Highly recommend going with Quetzal Trekkers - they cost the same as the rest of town except 30% of their profit goes to local charities
Let me start by saying I'm 63 and not in great shape and I made it to the top-not without difficulty, but nothing serious. the climb is a challenge, but take your time and rest and drink water and most of you will be fine....More
hike up was amazing, slide down was a blast. Highly recommend this. One word of advice, keep your mouth shut on the way down or else you will get a mouth full of dust!
Not far away from Leon, Cerro Negro is a very good option for a half day excursion (book from Leon, ask in your hotel/hostel). Bring good shoes and water. You will love the great views and the "volcano feeling".
