Volcano Boarding

If you get a chance you HAVE to do this- it is an absolute must- when will you ever get the chance to ride a piece of wood down the side of a Volcano-

Visited Cerro Negro Feb 2017. Go early as it can get very hot. Make sure you bring plenty of water. Hike takes about one hour the you sand board the way back down. You must carry your own board which is kind of heavy. Tour guides provide you with special clothing and googles. Follow directions when going down we saw... More

I hiked up Cerro Negro with my husband and a group of friends. The hike was a little tough, only b/c of all the wind, but the views at the top alone are worth it! Sledding down the volcano was very intimidating at first, but as soon as you do it once, you'll want to do it again.

I went for the volcano boarding. The hike is pretty easy, but can be tricky in some places where there is only unstable rocks and nothing to hang on to. Wear hiking shoes. It is very very windy at the top but the view is great. As it is very windy, you don't feel the heat, but the sun is... More

Very cool! Quick hike gets you to active volcano - venting fumerols (not lava). Slideboarding down was a 60 seconds of fun. (yes only 60 seconds). But hike up, views, active fumerols, ability to look into crater, and feel the volcanic warmth coming through sand at top......neat stuff!

I've been fascinated by volcanoes for quite sometime so this was an opportunity I could not pass up. Especially considering this is the only volcano you can sled down in the whole world. The trek to the top with the board is no easy feat. The winds can gust up to 70mph and it is by no means steady ground,... More

We had a great time at Cerro Negro, The hike is a bit challenging, but each step worth it, ten times. To walk on the crater of this volcano, surounded with smoke and hot steam was priceless. We picked the afternoon and we had the sunset in extra! The guide! We went there with Hanri from Z tours Leon. Hanri... More

Hiked up prior to volcano boarding and while the heat and the incline was a bit of a killer ( disclosure:am a bit out of shape so the hike up will be a piece of cake for a person used to hiking) BUT the views were worth it.Try to hike in the afternoon and pray you get some breeze.Verdict: must... We got to the bottom of the volcano and I was told there is a hard hike and a very hard hike to the top (code for no easy way up). I am middle age and in average physical shape so I took the hard route. I made it to the top but it was challenging. Be sure to take... More

Hiking up with the board was a piece of work but totally worth it! It gets extremely windy just as a caution for small stature people because I almost got blown away a few times so I resorted to carrying my board instead of strapping it to my pack. You control the speed and it has a great 360 view.... More
