We took our bikes over to Grand Island to explore (5 adults) and had a great time. We did not do the whole island because we did not start early enough but I don't think we missed anything of interest by skipping the northern end. Even though bikes with wider tires work best, take any bike over and you will... More

I had seen this lighthouse so many times that it drove me to visit it in person during our fall color tour.

If you love the outdoors you must visit the island's north beach. It is 10miles from the docks with moderate hills. If you make it you will not regret it. I wish I had more time. I'll def be back.

1) Call the ferry boat service to make sure they are running according to schedule; they may have different hours on holidays, and this might not show up on their website. 2) I had a very difficult time hiking/biking the nearly 4 mile trek to the cabin. I just started exercising a few weeks ago (and am 50). If you... More

My wife and I went there to get a long bike ride and to see the sights. It was a beautiful ride. It was much harder than we had anticipated. It was a lot of uphill and muddy (since it rained the night before). You can do shorter rides. We went around the entire island. The view was fabulous.

This was one of the highlights of our trip. The whole family took the 10:00 ferry over with our bikes (extra $8 per bike round trip). We were mostly inexperienced trail riders so we decided against the 20 mile trip around the island's shoreline. Instead we started up the west rim stopping at Merchandise Beach to wade out into the... More

We took the ferry over and biked the 12 mile History Loop. Great views and fairly easy riding (there were some intense hills though). Beware of the mosquitos!! Strong bug spray is a must. The ferry and bike staff were very friendly and helpful. Great experience!

We accidentally discovered the Grand Island bus tour. We stopped at the Joint Agency Information Center and were told that Grand Island was a hiking and biking location only, we do neither. We accidentally discovered that there is a bus tour on the island, went immediately to the ferry station and purchased tickets for the next day. A short ride... More

Spent the day here during a trip to the greater Pictured Rocks area. We rented bikes and took the Grand Island Ferry (pontoon) over to the island. There is a small visitors center that offers a brief but interesting history of the island. We looped around the island over course of 10 miles or so. We mostly stayed on a... More

We didn't enjoy this part of our Munising vacation, mostly because we were told reservations for the bus tour were not required when I called about a week prior to our visit and it was sold out when we got there.
