Quirigua

Very interesting Mayan ruins. Although there are no pyramids the stelae were extremely well preserved and incredibly readable!

Too expensive and without a guide we didn't learn much. Nice exhibits but really not worth the entrance price of more than ten dollars per person. I love world heritage sites and have tried to visit them wherever I can but really this is a ripoff unless you're highly educated in Mayan history and art.

It was a bit of a haul from Santo Tomas but was well worth the effort. We had a scenic view of the country. The site was very well preserved with clean walkways, a nice museum arrangement as well as a jade shop and clean restrooms. Our guide spoke excellent English and was very knowledgeable of the Mayan history and... More

Quirigua is a place where you can walk with friends have a good time and admire the incredible messages that old civilizations in Guatemala wrote. Nice place to walk, have a good day learning and talking. It is a clean place and it is very hot so shorts will help.

This park has the best stelae I have seen. Extremely well preserved. This is not the place to go if you're looking for pyramids or extensive ruins. But it's absolutely worth the time to see the stelae.

One comes here for one thing and one thing only: the stelae. So if you like stelae (and REALLY like stelae!), then you'll be in seventh heaven. Otherwise, sit back and watch the Discovery Channel go to the trouble of coming here and it's overview of what's on offer. (Indeed, the standard entry fee of 20Q seems fairly gauged, but... More

This is a much more interesting park if you've got a good tour guide that can explain the rise and fall of the dynasty that built this temple complex and the memorial statues that are in front of it. Also, since the park is not overrun with American tourists just yet, most areas of the park are open to exploring,... More

This site is amazing considering it was in the open weather for all these years. They history here is wonderful. Take mosquito spray as you walk in grass to see the sites.

I am a archaeology student and this is by far one of my favorite places in the whole world. This place has the tallest sculptures in the maya area and it isn't as crowded as other mayan cities. Don't forget to bring sunscreen, camera, and boots (shoes or sneakers can be wet at the end).

It was a long drive to reach Quirigua but it was well worth it when we saw all those magnificent stelae, many of them quite tall.
