Ok We saw the sqaure pictures of water befor going,,,, Expecting more.
The place is a cheap and nasty tourist trap, So so many people selling total junk. The entry was 500r,,, Not much,,,,BUT when you get charged, You kind of expect theres something worth visiting,,,,, NO Wrong
Theres a small area, with 5 pools about a meter sqaure, Where people bless themselves,,,, THATS IT. Blink and you miss it
Avoid 100%
Plus a local was trying to get Parking fee out of us too !

Our driver mentioned this place on our way to Trincomalee so we decided to pop in.

It's not the sort of place you spend hours but it's a nice place to stop off. The water in the springs is very warm and, despite it being warm that day, it was oddly refreshing and cooling.

Be careful of the monkeys in the grounds as they'll spot any snacks you're carrying and will chase you for them.

You park in the edge of the springs and have to walk through a market to get there. The market is a nice mix of stalls and I didn't feel like I was going to be ripped off. Our driver would have made sure we weren't but it just didn't feel like that kind of place anyway. We bought some locally made sweets and some spices before making our way back to the car, via the ice cream man for a much needed cold snack

Having seen hotsprings in China, Taiwan and Japan where they're pools you can get into, with different temperatures and different minerals /herbs in the water that have different effects on rhe body, this was a laughable imitation...

Half a dozen holes in the ground, filled with pond scum and moss...

Crappy looking buckets that you fill and then pour over yourself...

Just, don't go.

It’s abt 7km from triconmalee bus station. Take a vavuniya route bus . Tell driver to stop at Kanniya hot springs. Just walk 1km . 1st found on right mohaiydin mosque and Sufi mazar. From the hot springs walk up 200meters you will find the few 1000 of years old Sufi 40ft mazar ( I been 1998) but now Buddha monk close the way . Last time no monk or any Buddha control. Everyone can go ( now to everyone can go ) but showing one religious hold . It’s okey no problem 😃

The famous Kanniya Hot Springs of Trincomalee are indeed what they are, a natural series of hot baths that have been opened for the public at an old historical site dating back to the age of Ravana, as is said, to almost five thousand years ago to the Vedic period when Indo Aryan migrations were occurring on a large scale. It is said that the legendary Rakshasa (native Iron Age tribes equated with demons) was a great devotee of Lord Shiva, a fact clearly displayed in the Hindu epic Ramayana. He is said to have been defeated by the god himself when his mother was ill and their prayers did not cure her illness.

I think the springs are more for the locals, facilities are basic. Lots of stalls walking in to the springs seemed to be toys and sweets the main items.
The springs do have a significant place in the culture for local people but a bit underwhelming for us.

The water was not that hot for me .
The place is crowded. There were limited common buckets, so if you are planning to have a bath, better to bring your own bucket. Using soap is prohibited. There are separate changing rooms are provided for ladies and gents.

The fact that as soon as we entered the site, a tremendous downpour soaked us through to the skin. But those already ladelling the warm water from the springs didn't care about that. This is a nice diversion from the road on a fine day. Worth a look if you have the time.
