Hwaseong's west gate is a less remarkable fare when compared with the other three. Hwaseomun is a neat structure that guards the Joseon walled city. A landmark when exploring the UNESCO heritage.

This is to my eye the most impressive of the 4 gates of the Hwaseong fortress. It is the western gate and has a complex entrance structure and pavilion.

If you are visiting this gate there is a model display of workers showing the tools they used to construct the fortress. This is very interesting and very well thought out. There are about 40 workers, all dressed in white and four different machines from 250 years ago.

Each step of the way along the 5.52 kilometre fortress wall was ever-changing, while the ornate buildings along the way looked similar, turrets, guard houses and gates had their own individual architectural features, this included the west gate, Hwaseomun Gate. The gate was built in 1795-96 during the 19th year of King Jeongjo's reign.
The gate had symmetry consisting of a semi-circular walled walkway, watchtower and large pavilion, such beauty for what was used for military purposes. The gate has remained intact over the years and because of this is listed as the National Treasure #403. The whole walk of the fortress walls was well worth it and delightful, to be able to freely explore and photograph striking aspects of the buildings and the scenery.

This is the western gate to the fort complex and is quite impressive due to it's size.
It is well preserved.

Hwaseomun is also one of the main gate of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress. But this gate has very nice architecture. So it's the most popular shooting spot of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress. It's not too far from Janganmun.

We rented a bike near by the Suwon Hwaseong Museum and road it around the Hwaseomun Gate. It was a great experience and we got to see the beautiful gate and go around the nearby neighbourhood as well.

The are 4 gates to the fortress, North, South, East and West. Hwaseomun gate is the West gate. It is worth it to see all 4 gates to admire their enormity and beauty. It is also worth it to go inside the fortress and visit the grounds.
