A strange museum. Worth a look

No fee. A park on poops and toilet during the old days.
The only problem is the location, not close to the other suwon attractions.

Interesting place to visit

I found this such an interesting place. I read a little of the life of the man behind it and I think that helps with perspective. My young kids loved it, especially the kids museum/exhibit on the second floor of the cultural center across the street.

Ok, maybe I have the mentality of a toddler, but this place was brilliant! I took my 3 year old, who absolutely loved it. It’s in two parts - one is the house with the history, and some activities that are more aimed at kids of 5+, and the other is a children’s activity zone across the road in the cultural centre which is brilliant for kids from 18 months up. The activity zone was definitely my son’s favourite bit - whoopee cushion chairs, a cartoon, a ball game of ‘digestion’ a slide into a toilet, etc, but there’s also fun information for older kids - what foods make our poo different consistencies, models of the poop of different animals etc
The museum itself is really interesting - good information about toilet habits and history around the world, as well as the history of the owner (who was instrumental in initiating better public hygiene, as well as making ‘prettier’ public toilets, and contributing toilet knowledge to developing countries). There’s a sculpture garden with snigger-worthy statues, but interesting explanations. Definitely worth the easy hour-long trip from Seoul!

I’m glad this place is free otherwise I’d be upset. There is really nothing to see inside; it amounts to a few exhibits about the history of plumbing and sanitation. There’s a kids play area upstairs. The outside artwork is fairly humorous and you’ll have fun taking pics or posing. This museum is connected to an organization that promotes sanitary infrastructure worldwide so that is admirable. I wouldn’t make a special trip just to attend this place, if you’re already close by make a stop.

Load of crap :)

It’s really small... photos online make it look huge. Passed by as we were nearby for a few hours, but there’s nothing really interesting about it. Son enjoyed taking a couple of photos with giant poop, but didn’t complain when I said we’re leaving. At least it’s free though..... certainly not worth going out of your way to visit.

out of the way

The building itself is shaped like a toilet and the displays have some good information about how toilets and the sewage system works. The highlight is the park in the surrounding area with sculptures depicting the various toilets and outhouses from the past. The museum has lot of screaming kids running around so it wasn’t exactly a quiet visit. Considering it only took about a half hour to check out, it wasn’t worth the effort as the museum is in the outskirts of the city.

So you want to know everything about toilets
Jul 2018 • Couples
This is probably the strangest museum that i have ever visited with urinals and different types of toilets all over the garden and even statues of guys taking a sh**. The museum is in the shape of a toilet and the owner worked all his life for the sanitation department in Suwon and spent his later life making the house into a toilet park. When he died his family donated the house to the local authorities. It seemed quite a popular place o visit as there were probably 20 people there during our time there. The museum is about 30 minutes by bus from the city center and is free to enter.

This was originally a man's house. He was born into abject poverty and actually delivered in a slit trench. He worked on sanitation issues for most of his life. This is a nice place to spend an hour or so in the Spring or Fall. There are many sculptures and a some thinngs to do for small children. It is about 2km from Sunkunkwan station. Many buses go by this area though. It is on the main red bus line.

Funny place to visit if you're in the area!

It's a funny place to visit if you're in the area. It's pretty small and not a lot to see but they did a good job of putting it together - funny and random bits of history.
