The holy mountain Machapuchhre is called in English Fishtail. Its height 6993m from sea level. It is holy mountain so we can't get any permit ffrom climbing Nepal government . If anybody want to go base camp, it takes minimum one week go and back from Pokhara. I visited many times since 1995 in my trekking guide period.

Machapuchare means Fishtail mountain. It is only one holy mountain in Nepal. Its hight is 6993m. I highly recommand to do trekking of Near Fishtail like as Mardi himal trek, Machapuchare model trek, and Annapurna base camp trek.

The greatest attraction of this mountain is its shape, like a fish tail. Hence, it is also known as Mt. Fishtail or Machhapuchhre in Nepali. Another interesting thing about this mountain is that it can be seen from all 4 directions, i.e. south face from Pokhara, West face from Ghandruk, North face from Annapurna Base Camp and East face from Bandipur, which is very rare in most of the mountain peaks.

We had a wonderful trek and enjoyed camping. The staff were great. They were very helpful in all ways. The equipment was all good quality. This is a great shorter trek for families. There are not too many hills but there are stunning views. The staff cooked all the food three times a day, to a high quality and even baked a birthday cake on the fire. I highly recomment Polartreks. :)

Machapuchare is at the give up of a long spur ridge, coming south out of the essential spine of the Annapurna Himalayas, which types the Japanese boundary of the Annapurna Sanctuary and Machhapuchhre is two hours earlier than Annapurna base camp is well-known for trekkers. This is a unique trek on the foothill of the Annapurna south specially designed for those who love to enjoy the flora and fauna, panoramic view of the Himalayan range in a blissful way along with Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Fishtail and different Himalayan ranges which are arranged almost exactly in a circle about 10 miles in diameter with a deep glacier-covered amphitheater at the center. Due to its southern role in the range, and the in particular low terrain that lies south of the Annapurna Himalayas, Machapuchare commands exquisite vertical relief in a short horizontal distance. This, blended with its steep, pointed profile, make it a in particular putting peak, regardless of a decrease elevation than some of its neighbors. The Sanctuary is a favored trekking destination, and the web site of the base camps for the South Face of Annapurna and for severa smaller objectives. Its double summit resembles the tail of a fish, as a result the title meaning "fish's tail" in Nepalese. It is also nicknamed the "Nepalese Matterhorn".

Machhepuchhre is undoubtly one of the most beautiful mountains of the world. The travellers are not allowed to climb it in order to preserve its beauty. Nevertheless, watching this beautiful mountain from Pokhara is really pleasant. A little trip to Sarangkot early morning in order to observe the sunrise over the mountain is breath taking and beautiful. If you are planning to visit Nepal, don't miss the sunrise in Sarangkot.

The trip was organized by guide owned Polar Trekking and Expedition. Was the best experience ever, and certainly would recommend. For the guides, boys keep it up.

After five long days of trekking ,we reached MBC in the evening with the temperature in the low single digit (4deg.C). Our stay was arranged at the Fishtail Guest house & Restaurant. We were provided with clean rooms with clean linen and extra blankets for it was unusually cold for the season. In the middle of the night we were awoken by thunderous notices and on stepping out found that it was snowing and the thunderous noise was the snow sliding off the roof and on to the ground! For all of us it was joyous to frolic in the snow for we live in Chennai ,India where the three seasons are hot, hotter and hottest !
The restaurant served hot meals and their menu was extensive enough to suit all pallets .
The trek was organised by Getupandgo.in in India with Himalayan Holidays ,Kathmandu.
One important advice for people who visit this area is to be prepared for bad weather and snow. We had about one meter of snowfall in one night and it snowed all day and the next. We could not make it to the Annapurna base camp for lack of gear for snow !
The entire trek was organised impeccably and though quite arduous because of the weather and terrain, the guides and the Sherpas made it all possible . Itching to go back for more of Nepal.

Machapuchare (6,993 m or 22,943 ft) or "Fishtail" was my all time favorite mountain in the Annapurna Sanctuary. Per our guide, it is a "virgin" mountain that has never been climbed for religious reasons. One of the most fascinating aspects of this mountain is its constantly changing visual aspects and even 'mood'. On our trek from Nayapul to Annapurna Base Camp, we had our first glance of Machapuchare at Deurali, less than an hour from Ghorepani. Tip: Instead of climbing 1000' to Poonhill from Ghorepani at 5:00 a.m. to catch the sunrise, trek to Deurali for the same view. (You'll also be an hour closer to Annapurna Base Camp.) While you may not 'understand' why it is called the Fishtail, you'll finally see why - depending on the angle or where you are.

Machapuchare continues to evolve through Sinuwa, Deurali, Machapuchare Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp. Some of the most awe-struck views of the Fishtail were sunset at Sinuwa, from Deurali to Machapuchare Base Camp, Machapurchare Base Camp to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), and being at ABC (regardless of the time of day).
