While our stay at Janakpur, we also decided to see Railway Station of Janakpur. The station is not functioning. When we have seen better Railway Station in India, nothing to see here but building of Railway Station is almost 90 years old and structure of Rly. Stn.is some what intresting. actually was a key reason I went to Janakpur but I found station and trains a filthy dysfunctional mess and took no more interest - sorry so negative but could not see what is the fuss to see a dilapidated neglected and quite unattrractive station and railroad and rolling stock .... a shame really as opportunity is there for a real tourist attraction and return day-rides to border - I went no further to enquire after I saw the rubbish tip that was the station, and the shabby carriages, filth everywhere.

By research, I found that Nepal has a railway link to India and it begins 20 KM north of India-Nepal border at Janakpur, Nepal. It is the ONLY railway in Nepal and this led me to visit this (strange) place for some sentimental reasons!. Presto hold my breath, the visit was really sensational, unimaginable and ever-lasting. If you do visit Janakpur, ensure you too do the same.

The "station" is shed without walls, filled with free-moving goats, cattle, dogs and some human and also grazing pig and piglets!. There were also one or two who were deep in sleep in the open. A "passenger coach" was present for me see and remember.

Just sit at the station, forget every thing, enjoy the serenity and moving things around (man and beasts) you to "go back in history" to remind yourself and discover yourself.

The station is at the end of Station Road, an unpaved pot-holed filled 'wide path' teeming with people, cars, cycles and animals. For one from Malaysia/ Thailand/ Singapore who wish to backtrack to 30s or 40s era, please visit this place.

The Janakpur train station simply does not work.
I saw no trains no tracks no nothing.
Offices closed, grass everywhere, no railway officer to ask for info.

the railway station and the line which takes one into India was built in the 1930s and still runs - the only rail link between Nepal and India. A MUST for railway enthusiasts. Central location

Janakpur Railway Station is one of the oldest railway station in whole of Nepal and is only the railway station in Nepal. But now it is closed due to construction and maintance of new track lines and engines. It was used to operate from Jainagar to Janakpur Railway station.

Place bears the importance of Lord Ram & Sita marriage. The temple is so big that you will love it at first sight. Near this temple there is mandap where Lord Ram was married. This temple needs some cleanliness. People are cooperative. Place is good for shopping. The prasad in temple shop is amazing. There is a palace near this that is Jaleshwar Nath temple you can visit there if religious follower

Small station with few train connectivity. The new station work is under progress and it is broad gauge. And old station is narrow gauge line.
