After seeing Angkor Wat and other temples in Cambodia this was a bit of a disappointment. It is historical in that it was built first i understand but the reconstruction taking place throws off the whole idea of being authentic. The climb up the mountain was too much for me so i stayed down while the others went up. We... More

This is a spectacular pre-Angkorian temple that sits amidst the rice fields and waterways. I believe it to be one of Lao's most revered temples and is well worth a visit with a private tour guide to explain all the hidden treasures amidst the ruins.

We drove there by scooter (1h from Pakxe). Entree-fee was 50.000 kip p.P. + 5.000 kip parking. After climbing upstairs you get an amazing view over the temple and the Mekong landscape! Might be even more fascinating when you know more about the Khmer History and their religion.

Along the road 14A from Pakse to Champasak is a sign to this temple. You need to climb the 400 or so steps, but the view from the temple is magnificent!!!!!

If you are in shape and ready to climb plenty of steep stairs then Vat Phou is worth it. The view from the top is fantastic and the the Exhibition Museum at the bottom is worth a look. Definitely something to put on the travel list.

One cannot help to be impressed with a visit to Angkor Wat so it is very interesting to see Vat Phou Temple that proceed it by several hundred years. One can see the basis for the Khmer architecture that followed and understand why this remain an important destination during the Khmer era. Like many eraly Khmer temples, much of it... More

We rented bikes from ms noys in pakse. The belgian guy that runs it is very helpful if you need information. The ride to the temple is nice. The temple complex itself is really nice. Its kind of crumbling away but this adds something to the place. The little museum they have has got some good information on the temple... More

Visiting Champasak is a quaint experience in itself, and a visit to Vat Phou is worth staying a night for. From a sightseeing perspective, a day here is less tiring than those spent at Angkor Wat or larger sites, and makes for a very peaceful experience. Overgrown with tropical greenery and multi-layered, the temple(s) themselves are very enjoyable to explore... More

Though is ruined by times, the standing wall and destroyed temples there seems telling the world an ancient mysterious story of the ever kingdom. Maybe is the best temple in lao, unforgettable. The mystery cant be described, you can only experienced by climbing the temple mountain.
