Manors Fort is a place of historic importance and is located about 60kms away from Thanjavur. You can reach by 2/4 wheeler. There is parking facility and parking fee needs to be paid.
This fort is built to commemorate the victory of British forces over Napoleon Bonaparte in 1814 by Maratha King Sarofoji- II.
You cannot go upto the peak but can go upto two levels. You could see the traditional pit around the fort. It is close to beach. There is a light house but it is closed. Hence you cannot go inside.
Beach is close by. You cannot take a boat since it is prohibited by the Govt of Tamilnadu.
A must visit place :)

Reaching the Manora fort:
This fort is quite inside from the main road from Pattukottai. From Pattukottai, if you are taking a bus, then you can board any government bus that goes to Rameshwaram, Yervadi and get down at Mallipattinam and get an auto. Enquire before boarding. There are few private buses which have Mallipattinam listed as one of the destinations in them. Very few private buses stop at the Manora village. If you are driving by own vehicle, the route is pretty straightforward.
The beach:
There is a warning board near the sea indicating presence of the poisonous jelly fish. Bay of Bengal is quite calm here. The couple who own a snack shop stated that the State government would start boating two months from now. There's a children's park near the Manora fort. Fresh fish caught by local fishermen can be bought in the early morning. The beach is very calm and it would be good to have boating.
Food/Snacks:
There are very few shops which sell snacks and cool drinks. In case, you took an auto from Mallipattinam which dropped you at Manora, for return, the owners of the shops can give you auto references.
Good visiting time:
It's best to visit the fort in the evening between 5PM-6PM.

It's 15 km from my home. I visits this place more than 100's of times. The 7 storeyed gopuram build before 150 years ago near the sea shore is amazing. The panoramic view of the land and sea is very beautiful here. Nowadays, we are not allowed to upstair the gopuram because the building is found to be week and sealed. The government should take steps to maintain and improve the tourist attraction here. It can be easily accessible as it is situated near East Coast Road of Tamil Nadu.

One of the Good Heritage port in Thanjavur Dist.
Reach here early to see the sun rise and you can spend time in reading the history of this port and place.
It will be opened by 9:30 AM and it will be opened till 5 PM.
Earlier they were allowing to claim till the top. From the top view of the Ocean and landscape will be too good.
You will enjoy for sure and there is a Light House very close to this place..

This fort is a monument built by Sarfoji maharaj during 18th Century in appreciation of the victory against the Napoleon army. This has multiple floors but access is restricted to only two levels now. The beach nearby is deserted which is adjacent to a mangrove forest and the place is protected by the forest department. The fort is good and does not compel one to visit only for it..we did it enroute to Thanjavur as a stopover. They collect 100 rupees for camera in the fort and an entry ticket. This place used to be active tourist destination sometime back. Now, only localities and few visitors like us make it. There is a light house as well. Beach is full of weeds and cannot venture. There were no shops here. Carry your water bottle and snacks.

Manora fort is one of the heritage sites in Tamilnadu. I was amazed when i saw and read the history of this fort and I was proud that my home town is just 4 km away from Manora..it should be renovated to save this fort from the destruction. At the moment no one is there to take care of this fort and Children's park (in Collapsed state) and not allowing visitors to visit this fort. The government has to take step to conserve this monument as like other historical buildings.Does it happen ??????

This is actually located in the extended ECR i.e., from Pondicherry to Tuticorin via karaikal, nagapattinam, velankanni, tiruthuraipoondi, mimisal, ramanathapuram etc... In the ECR, there is a sign board for this towards the beach. A nice structure which is currently getting renovated. Further we can walk towards the sea. Surprisingly teh sea will be very calm without much of waves and it looks like some lake water.....

On the sea shore, calm and quiet place now.Few households nearby. The Monument though is only reminiscence of the fort constructed 2 centuries ago, yet stands out with photogenic back drop of ocean and clean surroundings
