Truly inspiring place.. the temple must be more than a thousand years old. It is really a wonder how someone would have constructed such massive temple thousand years ago without any modern techniques. I visited in the morning and the darsan was very quick.. did not take us more than 10 minutes once we had arrived at the temple. I... More

A must visit place. Great architecture and impeccable structures. Avoid summer seasons as the floors will be very hot to walk and the heat as well.

Massive in appearance, considering the material used and period during which it was constructed. The magnitude of work involved is amazing.

I am gonna keep it to the point, > Get a guide service, you can find them in front of the temple. Hardly costs you 300 to 400 bucks for 1 hour. This way you can at least know some vital information > Must visit place in Thanjavur as everybody knows > Do visit at night time and day time... More

I had visited The Brihadeeswar aka The Big Temple at Thanjavur (Tanjore) during mid january. I have chosen that time because the the Great Thyagaraja Music Festival(170th) was held during that time. It is at Thiruvaiyaru, some 15kms from the Big Temple. Thiruvaiyaru and the Big temple was my target destinations. Brihadeeswarar temple is the main architectural brilliance of South... More

Brihadeeswara Temple or the Big Temple is the first foremost place to visit when you are in Thanjavur. One can admire the sculptural beauty of the ancient Chola dynasty. We went there during the last full moon, and we were blessed to witness the temple Poochoridhal - floral abhishekam. This temple is crowded during weekends, public holidays and full moon... More

What an amazing place to visit! Although it was a hot day, there was plenty of shade in the colonnades running around the perimeter. The are many intricate carvings to be seen on the towers. Well worth a visit when in Thanjavur.
