Brihadeeshwara temple is a unique shiva temple, it is one of the 1000 years old temples in India. Locally known as big temple. A must visit if you are travelling to Tanjavur. There is a Nandi statue carved out of a monolithic rock.

It's the most beautiful temple I've ever seen. The entire place in itself has an unparalleled charm which needs to be experienced. Truly a memorable visit.

Built in Chola style, this is a very large complex devoted to Lord Shiva. The monolithic Nandi (Bull) welcomes you to the complex. The temple has an outer and inner sanctum and both are adorned by huge pillars depicting various aspects of Shaivism. The architecture is very good and much of it is in tact and was not destroyed completely... More
