The trip is amazing. Tour guy Muhammad is wonderful with an excellent knowledge on the Egypt history and social commentary. Drive is caring and sweet to lead the busies road in Cairo. Would recommend this trip to tourists who want to discover the beautiful wonder histories sightseeing in Egypt.

As a UK traveller I had UK Sterling, I had Egyptian Pound and I had my Credit Card to pay my way around Egypt. When I got to the ticket office for Wadi El Rayan, an office managed by checkpoint police, a couple of whom had tried to extort money earlier to provide police escort for international visitors, they had a price for Egyptian nationals to pay by Egyptian pound and then a price of $5 US dollars per person for international visitors. So $30 required for my family. This had to be paid in cash. I did not have US dollars on me and I offered to pay $5 equivalent amount in Egyptian currency or in sterling but this was refused. I offered to pay $ amount by card and even this was declined. This was extremely disappointing as even small businesses accepted payment by bank cards, but a tourist ticket office refused this option. There are many ways to stimulate the economy by requesting foreign currency but insisting only on cash amount smacks of corrupt black market dealings. Suffice to say we were not able to purchase tickets to go see the waterfalls and desert of Wadi El Rayan.

Wadi El Rayan waterfall is a breathtaking natural wonder that creates a mesmerizing display as they plunge down into the crystal clear turquoise pools below, and it forms a picturesque oasis in the arid landscape. This serene oasis offers a retreat where visitors can lost in the beauty of nature.

This reserve contains the multi-level waterfall, the surrounding shops, stalls, and rest stop, and also the lake known as "Magic Lake." The waterfalls are narrow and the valley there deep, but cool to see waterfalls in Egypt. The lake and it's surrounding vista area beautiful. It changes color depending on the time of day, time of year, and amount of light. It was nice to wade in the cool, fresh water after a day spent out in the desert.

From the movies, I always thought an oasis was a spring in the middle of the desert with a couple palm trees around it. Well this place is huge! A very cool end to our day four wheeling through the desert to an overlook of Magic Lake and the oasis.

Nice enough tourist stop close to a large man made lake used to irrigate land so does not come as close to the main area as it once did. People were having to walk quite away for a boat trip but did look very nice with the blue sky and sun shining. There is also horse rides and sand surfing. The oasis area has a number of souvenir displays as well as a cafe and ice cream seller. Plus clean up facilities. Main draw is 3 small waterfalls which many people dip their feet in at the top and also fish. The area is popular with locals as a break from the usual busy cities or a beach. It is a likeable area that may not look overly special but is quite nice and there are other areas to visit close by to make a visit here part of a day out. The only complaint for me is the quality of the roads which aren’t finished to get here and beyond. Some parts are horrendous while other parts are recently resurfaced.

Two lakes in the middle of the Sahara desert. And the two are connected by a waterfall. An incredible sight. They are two man-made lakes from agricultural drainage which has made a reserve of the two separate Wadi El Rayan Lakes. The reserve is composed of a 50.90 km2 upper lake and a 62.00 km2 lower lake. There is no natural recharge of water, but many decades have passed and despite the desert heat the lakes have not dried up.

The journey is relatively long from Cairo and requires an armed escort due to the shifts that prowl the desert. The scenery is stunning, especially as there was no one else around when we were there. Definitely worth a trip.

Do not even bother to go. it is nothing like it looks in the picture. It is a very low water fall. I was very disapointed to spend my day and time traveling to this area.
