Dow Gardens is truly a garden for all seasons and is open all year. The gardens were developed in 1899 by Herbert H. Dow, founder of The Dow Chemical Company. They include massed plantings of annuals and perennials, a system of ponds, and collections of flowering crabapples, roses, viburnums, and rhododendrons. More than 20,000 tulip and daffodil bulbs are planted in the fall for spring blooms.Famed architect, Alden B. Dow, son of Herbert, added many architectural elements to the gardens. He believed as did his father that the entire beauty of the garden should never be revealed in a single glance. A walk along streamside reveals a curving pathway bordered by lush annuals and a stream, leading to an historic red bridge which takes you to the conservatory.Other attractions include the award winning Children’s Garden, a maze, and a rockery of dwarf evergreens near the entrance. Special events include the annual Christmas Walk, concerts in the gardens, butterflies in the conservatory, outdoor movies, and tours of the estate home.

Our family joined hundreds of other families taking prom photos. We were able to capture the moments our prom goers joined their friends for large group photos and find the perfect spots to take photos of couples. Having over 100 sprawling acres of pines, birches, rhododendrons, tulips, ponds, bridges and more made it easy to find the perfect backdrop for... More

One of the most beautiful places that I've ever been to. I plan on bringing the family back more and more to enjoy this facility.

First ever to see how gorgeous and well maintained these gardens. I prefer it over the Holland, Michigan tulips. We attended the gardens for photo opp for pre-prom festivities. Just breathtaking nature at its best!

This is one of the most beautiful places in Midland, they offer many different options through out the year of activities to do. Photo options are endless, and they also have a fantastic butterfly exbit. In the winter time they offer caroling along the paths and even special nights where they have golf carts to carry people who cannot walk... More

We drove to the Dow Gardens to see the Butterflies. It's a event that happens every spring and runs for about 6 weeks. There is a large variety and in every stage of growth. It's very educational and busloads of students arrive throughout the day. It's really impressive. Beware that the butterfly house is warm and humid to better facilitate... More

This is such a great place to take a walk, they have a pretty cool children's area, and from the end of February, through March they have their butterfly house open.

I use the gardens for power walking, enjoying the flowers and peaceful atmosphere. Butterflies are fun in March. Great for photos and relaxing.

Dow gardens is a gem in Midland. My family was so happy to have found this amenity close by when we moved from Chicago. We visit the gardens in Spring ( butterflies, gardening), Summer, (kids park and roses), and Fall, ( leaves changing). We always enjoy it.
