We loved seeing the Fresnel lenses in the Maritime museum. Especially interesting is the fact that they have the old Stannard Rock lens and how they got it. Make sure to watch the short film about acquiring the lense and Stannard Rock - it's worth...More

One gets the impression that time stopped a while ago at the Maritime Museum, in that its approach to displays and explanations is, well, a little fusty... Don't get me wrong, there's interesting information tucked in here, there, and everywhere in this smallish collection. But...More

Thanks for your review. We are slowly updating exhibits. In the last month, we have added 8 video monitors to help with historical interpretation. Next season, we are planning at least two new exhibits. We hope you can visit again to see our improvements.

This is a museum in the making; it has already collected some really good maritime artifacts. We especially enjoyed the many fresnel lens (from old lighthouses) they had on display. I also took the lighthouse tour. It is a beautiful lighthouse on the outside and...More

Fascinating. Who knew the story of the Fresnel lenses, or how beautiful they are up close? Lots of Great Lakes shipping and shipwreck lore. A very small-town vibe, run and maintained by geeky types who love Lake Superior. One star deduction for the slightly musty...More

Thanks for your review! The "musty" smell is because the building is the old WaterWorks building (built in 1891) for the city of Marquette. With historic buildings, you sometimes get historic smells but we are working on it.

This out of the way museum was a highlight to our visit to the U.P. I was very impressed by the outstanding collection of lighthouse memorabilia. Loved the intro to the Stoddard rock Lighthouse, and even more impressed by the locals that refurbished the lenses...More

Great local maritime museum with some local WW II stories and displays. Displayed artifacts are all in good condition and very interesting too.

Stopped at the museum to get a picture of the Lighthouse. Unfortunately, didn't have the time to tour the lighthouse but had time to tour the museum. The lighthouse lens that were on display were neat. The had on old periscope that you could use...More

It seems like every town along the shore of Lake Superior has a maritime museum. This one is in the top three. Lots of displays and information and cool kid activities.

Poorly staffed .when going to the lighthouse you don't get to go up in the lighthouse you go to the first floor and the basement. The Museum was small with nobody around to give you any information. The young man giving the tour was pleasant...More

$7 for adults to do either the lighthouse or the museum or $12 to do both. Prices as of June 2017. Children are a lower price but unsure the price. It is definitely worth the cost.

The museum is well laid out and after visiting one really understands the area history and the importance the maritime part. What a great visit.
