I have done a lot of hiking, and must say I've never done such a short hike with such a rewarding view. I was actually hesitant to try it at first (based on how short it was) but ended up staying for a few hours. Small hint - there is a hidden trail that is close to where the easy... More

This is probably the most accessible 'nature place' in marquette besides Presque Isle. You can hike the mountain in 30 minutes, and I don't think you need to be in terrific shape to do it. There are many staircases along the way, plus you can pick the easy or difficult trail (difficult is not really that hard). I don't have... More

This short hike is fun and offers a big payout with the amazing views of Lake Superior, downtown Marquette and the country side from the hill top. There are steps with handrails that help with the slippery packed down snow on the trail. TIP - invest in snow cleats, they are not expensive and they make winter hiking more enjoyable.... More

Sugarloaf mountain is a great climb with an awesome 360 degree view of the area. You can see Lake Superior, NMU, Marquette, and Hogsback- be prepared for lots and lots of stairs.

Well worth the time to hike this 20 minute trail to spectacular views! Don't pass up the chance to see this view! Stay on easy trail unless you are relatively athletic.

There are great views and a wonderful town! It is worth the trip and is not a long drive or walk from the city.

Gorgeous views. I went once when it was clear out, and another time in the fog. Both times were beautiful. When it's clear, you can see for miles along Superior's shore. When it was foggy, I watched the fog roll through the trees below. The hike is easy, steep in some parts, but it's short.

Sugarloaf is only 5-10 minutes North of Marquette, MI and offers easy parking, and well maintained trails including stairs with railings and more or less aggressive trail options. The trail can be slick in winter, but usually is easily managed - put on your yak traks! Beautiful views reward you - definitely worth the 20 minute walk up the hill.... More
