A point in the storm and a guiding beacon since 1889, Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse helped passing ships navigate through the treacherous waters of the Straits of Mackinac. There's just as much to see from the top of the tower as inside the original buildings. Authentically restored quarters and exhibits, including the original lens and the Straits of Mackinac Shipwreck Museum, this "Castle of the Straits" is a true gem of the Great Lakes.

Visited this lighthouse. The guides were extra helpful and enthusiastic about their job, dressed for roll of lighthouse keeper. The climb wasn't bad and view was amazing from the top. We toured the lighthouse and grounds where the keeper of the lighthouse lived. This is a very well kept historic site. We signed up for one of the timed tours to the top. There is a spiral staircase and then a ladder to go all the way up. You better be wearing real shoes and not flip flops, or they... More

Enjoyed seeing this lighthouse and taking the tour up it it is short but very interesting There is a couple of small museums here also included in price of tour The only complaint I had was there took too many up the narrow stairs at one time

Enjoyable lighthouse tour and clean grounds. Not nearly as touristy as the rest of Mackinac and the shipwreck museum is superb!

This was a lighthouse that was used to help keep boats from crashing into the land and to point them into the right direction from harm....another fact of interest in the State of Michigan....and a place where you can learn some more history....

My family felt slightly uncomfortable walking to the lighthouse because of all the fish flies. The fish flies are very active in May. If you plan to visit in May, wear a coat when you are outside. Otherwise, the fish flies can stick to your shirt. The tour guides in the lighthouse are helpful. After climbing 55 steps to the... More

Even though there were a lot of mosquitoes around, we were able to take some pictures of it, and enjoy the view.

I've visited a liot of lighthouses in my time and this was the best. The best part are the docents. Ours, the gentleman, knew an amazing amount about this lighthouse. He was so interesting and informative that I could have stayed all day. (Note: go earlier in the day than we did so you have lots of time to read... More
