Description:

A point in the storm and a guiding beacon since 1889, Old Mackinac Point...

A point in the storm and a guiding beacon since 1889, Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse helped passing ships navigate through the treacherous waters of the Straits of Mackinac. There's just as much to see from the top of the tower as inside the original buildings. Authentically restored quarters and exhibits, including the original lens and the Straits of Mackinac Shipwreck Museum, this "Castle of the Straits" is a true gem of the Great Lakes.

This was a great historic site to see. It's beautiful brick building standing in front of the vast water is incredible.

As part of the historical pass we purchased in Mackinaw City, we decided to visit the lighthouse, and our kids had a blast. While I wasn't able to go up in the lighthouse (I was wearing flip-flops; don't forget to wear closed-back shoes if you want to climb to the top), a gracious and funny costumed guide took my children... Great displays...lots of historical information about this area. Great for families with kids over 5 years old. There is a nice park that surrounds the property, and great views of the Mskinac Bridge..

I am making a point of checking out the lighthouse of Michigan, and of course had to see this one!!! Didn't get a chance to go in, but I will be sure to next time I am in the area. I just love history, and Michigan history as well, and just getting to check out things like this makes me... More

This is a great example of another "cornerstone" in our American Culture. Think of the many people, who never had a reason or cause, to even think about such important structures and functions. Golly, after seeing the history and artifacts, there is a renewed appreciation for light house masters, the Merchant Marines. If your kids have never been inside a... More

The whole Mac City (with a bar, takeaway or two exception) was Closed for the season ! Must be really crowded in season ?? Loved the LH , beautiful & imposing structure and in really good condition. Light houses are one of the great things that make Michigan so wonderful. Mackinaw City has this great one for you and your family to visit and a walk on the beach shore is recommended.

Because it was October we were only able to see this from the outside only. The people that were there doing outside work we're friendly and said the bathrooms were open and we were welcome to walk around.

We were only able to walk around the outside of the lighthouse this time. They were already closed for the season. But it still was a great time, and we got some really good pictures of the lighthouse.
