We were fortunate to be here on the last day they were open for the season and really glad we didn't miss this opportunity. It presents the history of the first settlements of the Indians, followed by the French, English, and Americans. It was primarily a trading post early on, then transitioned to a military fort later. It was abandoned... More

Colonial Michilimackinac is on the site of Fort Michilimackinac. In visitors center, view informative 13 min movie about fort and area with good explanation of relationship with occupiers of fort and natives before taking a walk to the fort. Period-dressed re-enactors are available to demonstrate and answer questions as you walk in and among the buildings. Well behaved pets are... More

I have a place in the area and have been visited before. It was a good time at fright night. Worth a visit anytime that it's open.

This is a great historical place to visit. Very informative. They did a great job on recreating it. We went late in the season so not many people. The staff was nice and would talk to you about any of your questions. Nice place to take your kids. I didn't know this but they do a haunted fort in October.... More

What a wonderful experience!!! It had been years since we took the time to tour the fort, but on a recent anniversary trip thru the upper peninsula we had this on our must do list and have to say, we ended up being there over two hours, as there's so much to see. Everything is beautifully displayed; we could literally... More

The restored fort has lots of offer and provides an excellent history of the fort and region. There are various demonstrations by knowledgable and friendly staff dressed in period outfits and exhibits geared towards children. Free parking. Worth the price of admission.

This was a lovely walk through the buildings and chance to talk with some of the people who were there dressed in soldier's uniforms and other clothing. When we went, we had a chance to talk with the people and ask questions which made it special. They fired the cannon and also shot the muskets as well as explained what... More

There is a video that can be viewed. The fort itself is being restored. The soldiers demonstrate the firing of muskets and a cannon. You can take as much time as you want. There is not a tour guide as such; however, there are people dressed in period costume who will talk about what they do. They also answer questions.

We visited Colonial Michilmackinac this summer. We brought the grandkids ages 2,4 and 6. We were suprised how much the younger kids enjoyed the visit. The cannon and musket demonstration were a big hit. The historical village was very interesting, enjoyed the people in costumes.

This fort isn't very large, so it's easy to look at all the buildings during one visit. It sits right on the water, and, in fact, the visitors' center - don't miss the introductory film here - is built directly under the Machinaw Bridge. You can find many informative, costumed re-enactors both inside and outside the various structures. We enjoyed... More
