The 2015 rebuild of the old fort on the island's highest point is worth the walk or ride. Great views from there and the new fort looks great and should last for a very long time. Good for kids to understand the historical significance and the military strategy involved.

This historic site is at the very pinnacle of Mackinac Island. One could imagine incoming ships or troops while viewing from the fort's watch ledges. It's a bit of a challenge reaching it with lots of steps and steep inclines, but it was well worth the climb. The Mackinac Bridge and Round Island Lighthouse are also visible. The reconstruction of... More

You will grab the best pics from Fort Holmes if you go before late-afternoon, because you won't be looking into the blinding sun. Make sure, also, not to go on a cloudy or foggy day. There's not much to do at Fort Holmes except to take in the breathtaking panoramic views. I can't imagine the stellar pics you'd get if... More

Top of the island with spectacular views of the world! lots of water and islands all around you. Take pictures and have a picnic. Lots of picnic benches everywhere. the fort was interesting for history buffs. everything is clean and organized beautifully. the hike up there is not for the unfit or people with medical problems! Enjoy.

This is the highest point on the Island. The fort has been rebuild with lots of good information if you are into history. Going there just for the view is enough.

We took the 9AM Star Ferry to the Island to see the fort on Wednesday August 17th. It started out as a rainy day but the weather cleared up more as the morning progressed.. We only had the morning so the Fort was the primary objective this trip. The walk to the fort from the city is all uphill. About... More

It's an uphill hike or a bike ride, but the Vistas are incredible. Recent additions include a historical exhibit which is nice. It is about 1/2 mile up the hill from Arch Rock

Fort Holmes is the highest point on the island and provides spectacular views. There are a couple ways to get here. A road leads all the way or you can take several stairs up from another road. Well worth the time and effort.

When we were on Mackinac Island 2 years ago,we heard about the site of the former Fort Homes being the highest point on the Island but we didn't manage to make it up there before we had to leave. So this time we were determined to go there first and get a panoramic view of the area from up there.... More
