It’s a pretty nice beach, I only bring my service dog with me because only service dogs are allowed but I do see pets brought in quite often who get in fights with each other. It can be pretty traumatizing for children to see dogs ripping each other apart. I normally just see dogs when I drive by but in the summertime when I visited (I’m writing this in February of 2022) we ran into 4 dogs that I can remember in total we saw about 60 dogs that summer being brought in. The first dog that I ran into got in my service dogs face and it was peeing on everything including the little hut that sells snacks. The second it was an Australian Shepherd that one should after my dog under the picnic table almost taking a whole table with it. And the other two was an off leash eight week old puppy and a elder Chihuahua which was lunging up in the air trying to attack my dog. The owner said it was an emotional support animal which have no public access rights they only have housing rights. So it’s pretty unfortunate that people pretend their dogs are service dogs just so they can bring them to the beach. The first lady even decided to give me attitude when I said pets were allowed she got in my face and said “you can walk them here on the sidewalk“ but the whole entire park and beach is not pet friendly.

We walked out to the end of the breakwater, which is a lot farther than it looks and with the wind and waves that day made it more of an experience. They had a very nice, new looking bathroom building where we stopped. If you are staying in the town area this is a nice beach to spend some time at. Some of the restaurants in town don't have the inside dining at this time so you can pick up your order, bring it to this park
and use one of the picnics tables available while enjoying the waterfront views.
It is too bad about people bringing their dogs to the beach, it is the same thing at the state park beaches as well, even though there are all kinds of signs stating that it is not allowed. What is wrong with people now days?

Of course the beach is gorgeous as all West Michigan beaches are but I have to applaud this beach for their multiple wheelchair ramps. They're very nice four-wheel chairs or anyone handicapped and even for elderly people to make it down to the beach. I have knee trouble and ankle trouble and it made walking down to the beach incredibly simple. It also shields you from the hot sand. I saw multiple families with small children using it which is also very nice.

My husband and I stayed at Shoreline Inn in Ludington and could walk right across the street to the beach. It was beautiful with awesome sand and not rocky at all. The water was actually warm enough to swim in and was very clear. We brought lawn chairs and spent most of the day at the beach. They have a concession stand that is very convenient with several choices.
We walked out to the lighthouse which was also lots of fun. Great views of the shoreline. We would totally visit this place again. It was so nice to have a great sandy beach with clear and not salty water!

A very long beach along Ludington's coast. It is also very beautiful, with lots of benches. I appreciate benches. This is a great place to relax and soak in the sun. A place to do Yoga, no thanks. A wonderful place to watch the sunset! A place you can enjoy freighters and The Passenger liner SS Bladder return to port. Very well upkept.
This is an easy 5 star review. I would definitely return!

I really enjoyed the nice beach and park here. It is a nice walk out to the lighthouse, but I picked a day when the winds picked up so it was a bit wet. Concession stand is convenient for beach goers. Plenty of sand volleyball courts as well.

Visited in early August 2020. Beach was clean and not overly crowded. Easy in and out parking with a nice park for kids to also play in. A bug plus is allowing alcohol on the beach, which a lot of other beaches don’t allow for. Premier beach on the west coast.

We went there so my husband could skate at the skatepark. It's a nice cement park. Some of the cement was a bit rough, but overall it was nice. Didn't spend much time at the beach, but it seemed clean. Also noticed there's a playground there. Seems like a nice place to spend a day at.

The beach looks very pretty. We did not stay too long on the beach. We visited the lighthouse. People visiting the lighthouse are very good to “keep the social distance”.

We frequently visit Ludington, and a trip is not complete without a few trips to Stearns Park. Between the amenities offered, concession stand, locations, and friendly staff, it is a definite must. Once in a while you have to live a little, and they offer deep fried Oreos. Get them!!!!

Is there a parking fee? What is the fee to tour the lighthouse? Thanks!

From my trips there, I do not believe they rent them out. There are plenty of shops downtown (which is right down the street), that have low priced beach accessories though.

If you find a cell phone at the beach in Ludington, take it to the Sheriff Department on N Delia St. If there is a sheriff deputy in the park, you could give the phone to him. IF you lost your phone, again the sheriff department would be your best bet. Hopefully someone will find the phone and call one of your contacts so you can get the phone back. Hope this helps.

I'm afraid I don't know the answer to that question. Many MI beaches don't allow dogs, but I don't know about Stearns. I've seen dogs on the beach, but that doesn't mean they are allowed. I looked at their website and it doesn't answer the question either.

I am planning a wedding at Stearns Park for next year and would like to know if beer and wine (I assume no glass) are permitted in picnic areas and/or if there is a time constraint?
Written 24 August 2016
I just looked at the ordinance on line and it's no container larger than 2 liters!
