Located next to a camp ground, it gives easy access to travellers. It is a very quiet beach. It is also a no frill beach. There are no benches, so bring your own seat. The view is nice, but the main beach is nicer.
Overall a 4 star beach. Nothing wrong with it, just a little boring. Would I return? Probably not.

It's a nice place for your pooch to get a chance to swim and cool off. From the parking area make sure you walk south. There is private property to the north. There's also a nice lake across the road (to the east).

Beautiful, beautiful campground. Unfortunately local seasonal campers reserve the premium spots for May through October and bring in excess clutter. Natural conflict between the locals and "outsiders". Hope the Township eliminates the seasonal option and increases prices. Ludington business would benefit from turnover on the premium sites. This place could be the crown jewel of the eastern shore.

Mostly cater to locals. Can make reservations one day a year in person. When I was there firework use was out of control and going on until 3am. Dogs were unleashed and barking past midnight and again at 7am. So. If you own a dog and want to bring it on the beech, party all night, and have rules not followed its great. This is a good drinking park. Beech is awesome. Location is nice. Lots are small. Don't go with a tent or canvas camper, your family won't sleep. Nighttime administration is non existent and not patrolled.

We read that this park has picnic tables, restrooms, and playground equipment. We didn't find any of those. All we found was a dirt parking lot for only a small number of cars, a dune to climb down to the beach, a very nice sandy beach, and awesome views in both directions. We may have seen one chemical toilet near the parking lot.
There is a campground just a bit up the road from the park, and maybe the description meant those amenities were at the campground park. We drove thru the campground and is looked pretty nice. But as far as the public park as listed in Ludington's "park" pages of their tourist book, we saw none of those amenities. But those views-WOW.
Nice drive over-pretty scenic. Other side of Pere Marquette lake.

This was our second time here with our dog, she's a lab mix so we try to let her swim whenever we can. We visited in October so it was a bit chilly in the water for both my son and my dog but they both went in and seemed to enjoy themselves. There was hardly anyone there and while I keep my dog on a leash there was another woman walking her dog without one. The only downsides I can think of are that the beach is a bit rocky, I believe there is only a port-a-potty, and parking is somewhat limited.

We've been going here (year 'round) for the last 9 or 10 years. It's a really nice dog beach but with a couple caveats: The actual dog beach area is not as large as it appears. The designated beach is adjacent to the camp ground, however people and dogs spread out much further and may give the impression that the dog beach stretches for a mile. Beyond the camp ground beach area there are private homes all up and down the beach and the dogs are confined to just the sandy shore between the dune grass and the water (with warning signs put up by some beach front home owners to remind dog owners to keep off the private property). This sandy space can change drastically from year to year. The city of Ludington dredges the access to the harbor every few years and will dump all that excess sand onto the dog beach area. After a harbor dredging the dog beach is extremely wide but then begins to narrow with the passing of every year until it becomes a narrow strip again... that is until the next dredging. Also this dog beach has become VERY popular in recent years with the summer vacationing crowd. Back when it was not so well-known, this beach attracted many non-dog owing beach goers as well as dog owners, just because the beach was so secluded from the city crowds. However now in more recent times this beach will become very crowded with dog people every single day from July 4 'til Labor day weekend. Outside of that time period however the beach can often be found virtually deserted... June is somewhat spotty in this regard. September to May you'll often find the parking lot and beach empty. Its great for strolling up and down looking for neat stones, driftwood and doing water retrieving with your dog. Mostly its a friendly beach where even people with less socialized dogs can often find adequate spacing to avoid issues. I've never actually seen a dog fight in all the years we been coming here.

the method that is used to make reservations for this campground are totally unfair. to get a reservation one must stay up all night in line at the campground office. they cater to the people in line first and then IF there are any sites left,,they take phone reservations. last year I started calling at 8:00 a.m.and finally got through at 5:00 p.m.all sites for prime times were taken. the people in line are allowed to reserve multiple sites at one time. after they have reserved the limit, they then can go to the back of the line to have a chance at more. therefor the people who are trying to call get no chance whats so ever to reserve a site. in my opinion to make this more fair I think that reservations should only be made on line,or phone!!!! period!!!! hoping that the township steps up to the plate to make this situation more fair.

I live very near to this park and I think it is the best in Mason County. Private, quiet and dog friendly. Plenty of beach and rocks to look at. Only criticism is they don't have a bathroom.

Yes - Leashes are required in the campground area. If your dog is extremely well trained you might be able to give them more freedom if the place is not busy. On the beach if you go to a more remote piece of shore, you might be able to let the dogs go on a non busy day. Many people were throwing balls in the water for the dogs to get in the busier beach area without a leash. It all worked out quite well, no issues. Much depends on your dog and how well trained they are.

Is this place cheap enough for a weekend get away with my dog and I. I like adventuring out on the weekends cause I work full time but I'm a college student so I don't have all the money in the world and I don't really know of any free camping along the beach any information would help really.
