The area around the river is under construction (Fall 2020), so it has taken away a bit of the scenery, but it's still a fun walk over the bridge. Only one side was open, which was the side towards the Bavarian Inn. Hopefully the work wraps up by Fall of 2021, which is when we'll make our way up to Frankenmuth again.

My third trip to Frankenmuth was the first time I was aware that the town had a covered bridge, when I saw a picture of it in a souvenir shop. I asked where it was located and made a point of stopping to see it.
I was slightly disappointed to discover that the bridge was built so recently, in 1979, because I was anticipating an antique bridge with a lot of history . . . possibly having serviced Frankenmuth's early settlers. Only eight more years until it does qualify as antique though. And the bridge makes a quaint addition to the town's Bavarian theme.
The vehicle lane is very narrow, but two smaller cars can pass carefully. There's a parking lot (free parking) on a hill above the bridge on the east side of the river in case you want to stop to inspect the structure close-up. And there's a separate walking lane for pedestrians where you can stop and gawk at the river in both directions.

The bridge is a beautiful structure. Not at all crowded even though we were visiting during the holidays and every other place was filled with people. You can walk across or drive across the bridge – there are 3 openings. In fact, cars can drive in both directions. We did not do a carriage ride, but you can cross the bridge on a horse drawn carriage as well.

Sitting in the middle of Frankenmuth is an authentic wooden bridge that connects downtown to the Bavarian Inn. The bridge is barely able for two lanes of travel and occasionally travelers must allow the Inn shuttle bus to travel on it alone. It is made of dense wood and the construction style shows how many covered bridges were made in the past. This is a good photo spot and education if you have never seen a bridge of this type. When in Frankenmuth take a few minutes to go look at it and visit the historical center.

This was my first trip to Frankenmuth and after dinner we walked further up the street and were able to stand by the bridge and watch the riverboat turn and go back down the river. The bridge appears to be in excellent condition and it is safe to walk across even while sharing the the bridge with vehicle travel. The bridge was a really nice addition to the feel of the area.

The kids were pooped at the end of our visit, so I walked alone from our parking spot at the Bavarian Inn. It was lit up and it is all wooden. You can walk along the side to get to the other side (I did not though), and it you can still see through the sides. Very well-made bridge that cars were driving on easily. It's not super long, so I'd say it takes a minute driving on, if that. It's right off the main street of Frankenmuth next to Bavarian Inn.

Just a fun walk to and from the Bavarian Inn Lodge. Beautiful views of the river as well. Amish built the covered bridge in 1979 and then recently re-roofed. The walk is separate from the car traffic so it's very safe.

If you are walking about in Frankenmuth, you have to walk across the Covered Bridge! There are only a handful of covered bridges in Michigan, and this one ranks high. Probably since it is in a village with lots of things to do! Walk both ways across the Cass River. Take a selfie with a car going by!! Enjoy the scenery.

This bridge is worth a visit if you are in Frankenmuth. You can safely walk across since foot traffic is separate from car traffic. It’s a cool bridge, and it was clearly well-built.

Don’t miss the covered bridge. It’s well maintained and large. Pedestrian traffic is separate from vehicle lane. Can walk on both sides. One of the prettiest covered bridges I’ve seen.
