The inner courtyard is lit with natural light to best display the Rivera murals. Stand quietly to let the entire image wash over you, and look at the floor to see the story etched in the tiles. The DIA also houses an excellent, accessible collection...More

Great place to spend the whole day; esp. now that admission is free for residents of Wayne, Oakland, Macomb counties. Special exhibits do cost extra but they are totally worth it. I recently saw the Monet paintings there. The venue is very well laid out,...More

The DIA's collection is among the top six in the United States, with about 66,000 works. The number of docents ready to explain pieces of art surpasses any museum I have been to. Deigo Rivera's mural occupies pride of place and a docent can spend...More

The DIA is my favorite art museum because of its encyclopedic collection, of art from all periods. It has just enough of everything and is well presented. Their movie series is a great way to spend an evening. Plus the beautiful cafe is in an...More

Great art gallery. Free to Wayne county residents. Parking across the street $10. Great place to visit on a cold or rainy day. Need about 3 hours to do it justice and u still won’t see everything.

Thoroughly enjoyed this excellent art museum during our recent visit to the Detroit/Windsor area. Wonderful collection of a variety of genres, with informative exhibits. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the cafeteria also is very good. Get there early, and take your time.
